My Beardie is laying eggs... first for both of us!
My bearded dragon is laying eggs. She’s laid 3 in the last 45 minutes. I have a hovabator setup and ready but I didn’t get vermiculite today! I was supposed to go tomorrow. I thought I had more time seeing as she didn’t even start digging at all until about 10 PM tonight. Now the question, do I let her lay the eggs and bury them and first thing in the morning get the vermiculite and dig them up? Or should I take them as she’s laying them (she’s letting me near them) and put them in the soil in a container and put that in the incubator in the mean time? Please respond here, email me (Melissa.) or IM me on AIM at babygirl05282004. Thanks so much!

My Beardie is laying eggs... first for both of us! Hi Melissa, just keep the eggs burried until you get your vermiculite. When you do get your vermiculite, make sure that you have is damp enough that it stays in the form of a clump when you squeeze it in your hand. make sure that your incubator is set between 80 and 85 degrees celcius. just put your vermiculite in big enough container to fit all the eggs in and that the container has a lid. once your container of vermiculite is ready, very gently dig up the eggs, and make sure that you do NOT turn the eggs, cus this will kill the embryo. make little dents in your container of vermiculite, and place the eggs very carefully in each dent, so that they are about half way burried in the vermiculite. when you are done placing the eggs in the container, place the lid on it, but dont snap it shut, just set it ontop on the container so there is airflow in the container. every few days check the vermiculite and make sure it stays damp. Hopefully this helped you out. Good luck with your eggies!

Thanks Blaze. She ended up laying 19 eggs. I can still feel 2 in her... so I’m not sure what to think about that. I gave her a bath, nothing yet. She finished laying about 7 1/2 hours ago. Anyway, I had the incubator (hovabator) set at a steady 84 degrees yesterday. This morning when I woke up it was at 88.2 degrees. Will this kill the babies? It was like that for what could have been 3-4 hours.

90 is lethal, but the eggs have to get up to that point to be lethal. between the substrate and them having a lid on the eggs them selves temp probably didn’t get that high. Hovabators are very sensitive to the ambient room temp. If the room temp goes up after you set the incubator temp the incubator temp will rise too. -Jay
