 HELP! NEWBIE!!

OK I asked on another post.. but it didnt really help me..

Currently I have the eggs in play sand.. I have LOTS of water in the incubator.. and am watering the sand.. She layed last night.. in the middle of the night.. not in her laybox.. I did the laybox in the cage, and she didnt care for it. So I had to take them out immediately.

This morning we woke up and the temp is still a steady 84. BUT the eggs are mostly all caving in. Is it the sand.. are they toast? Can I go buy the vermiculite (a speciality shop has some I just figured out) and transfer them (being VERY careful not to roll em) or is it all shot and should I just try again next clutch? She is pretty faithful from what I gather and will lay again just on time.

Thanks for any and all advice.. I would hate to of killed the embryos, as I still view them as babies!

Get the vermiculite, get it dampened, and get the eggs moved. If they were warm they are probably ok. Do you have covers for the egg containers? loose fitting so you can open it without disturbing the eggs. -Jay

yes..... and they are on except when I checked on them. I poked holes in it.. is that right? If not I have extra’s with no holes I can replace them with.

Thank you SO much... I’m on my way to go get the verm.

Not a prob. and yes the holes are fine. Only really need a handful of small holes. If i remember right it should be about a cup of water to 5 cups dry vermiculite. Make it damp enough that when you squeeze it tightly it holds its shape but no water drips out. Once you get them transplanted to the vermiculite, let them warm up in the incubator again, and we can try to help out the dented eggs. -Jay

OK.. I got them in Perlite.. I’m pretty sure at the right moisture level. I also got the digital thermometer with humidity gauge.. rather than relying on the one that came with the kit.

Now what? Wait and see if they fill back in?

 HELP! NEWBIE!!

She may still have eggs in her, or she may not have buried them all the way, hard to tell. Gently mist the eggs tonight and in the morning. See if that swells the dents out. -Jay

 HELP! NEWBIE!!

They are just slightly more fuller.. but still look all dented ~ not deflated!
Does this mean they are no good.. I know it can happen later.. but so soon?!?!

What is the ideal humidty for the incubator? I cant get it over 50% I even have an extra container with just water in there. I read somewhere it needs to be like 80-90 % is that correct? If so how else can I increase it? I am misting 2-3 times a day....

Thanks again for ALL the help... I know how frustrating it must get to see people getting into breeding and not being fully prepared. These animals deserve more! I’m trying.. I really am...

 HELP! NEWBIE!!

keep misting gently and watching them. if using a hovabator, we just fill every single channel in the plastic tray. our humidity stays right at 80%. Sent you a PM -Jay
