 My Laybox

Ok...there are pics of my laybox and I want to know if I did it right...cos she isn’t digging...AT all. lol...but the moment I take the box out of the enclosure I am using for her to lay her eggs...she starts scratching the glass and the walls and the repti carpet etc. But the moment I put it in there I get nothing. I didn’t use dirt, but vermiculite...should I rather be dirt? And is it a good size? The hole in the side is so that she can get in and out easily. lol. And also, if you look closely I have a pilot hole there for her too. Pls, any advise I would love.
PS. Is it a problem if I cant feel her eggs? The vet confirmed that she is gravid via an ultrasound on the 24th of August. I know it will be a small clutch...he could only see about 6 eggs on her last scan 5 days ago...but ja.
I should also mention she hardly touches food now too. lol
I will post picks asap

Here are some picks of the laybox with it’s pilot hole. I dampened and firmly compacted the vermiculite.

I guess you can use vermiculite although I use topsoil. Vermiculite of course is for the eggs to be laid on in containers in the incubator after they are laid in the lay box and removed. I have never used vermiculite as a laying substrate. Take good care Beth

Thanks. My incubator is well laid out with vermiculite...or the container for the eggs is I mean. I will try potting soil tomorrow...maybe that will work. Just need to get rid of the stones etc. Thanks. Maybe that’s that’s bothering her :)

yeah.. just wanted to add.. I use soil and play sand mix.. it compacts better.. Also.. some girls like a little light/heat on it.. so maybe put a light over it... that helped my girl..

good luck with her...

Don’t use potting soil ...use topsoil that has no additives...you saw the pic of my laybox I think...Take care Beth

I have only ever used top soil with no additives. My beardie will only go in the box and dig if there is a cover on it. compact the soil a little because it has less of a chance of collapsing on her. then sit back and watch. it truely is a cool thing to see. Good luck

Jim
