 Brumation???

Can I get some details about brumation please? Can some explain what it’s all about to me.

My male dragon is acting odd and well I’m tired of it. He just wants to lay around and sleep, he won’t eat and looks so skinny.. I know he is getting enough to drink his heat is just right, he is offered food many times a day he don’t have parasites or mites or anything like that, so what is wrong with him? Oh he is 2 1/2 years old..
Thanks...

Brumation is a winter dormancy they go through as adults each winter. You can’t really stop them from doing it despite heat and light. The only issue is that they should NOT get all skinny during brumation. You may want to have him checked out by a vet. I’ve had dragons go down (brumate) for 3 months and come out of it nearly the same as when they went down despite not really eating or moving much for that long.

Ok, so I still don’t get it, basically they want to be left alone in the dark with no heat or what and they just sleep for months? He has not moved today just slept and won’t lay in his lights. Do I need to cover him up or anything?

It is very very important to get a vet check on your dargons before brumation...I time it just for brumation...as long as you know it is not a parasite or other issue then let him sleep...I have those who sleep for a week and come out & feed...then back to bed...it is frustrating...but time your fecals/checkup for autumn...if you have dragons greater than a year old..some will brumate...get the vet visit now,,,Take good care B

AS BAD AS I HATE TO DO IT I GOT PINKIES FOR MY DRAGONS, I’LL HAVE THEM IN LIKE 20 MINUTES..

It’s just so hard to do cause I have pet rats :( I’ll have to drop them and leave the house, but if it will help my dragons and make them healthier imma do it..

How many do they need and how often please????

No offense, but what does feeding pinkies have to do with the fact that your dragon is not eating, laying around and becoming skinny? Healthy dragons eat anything (bugs, greens whatever!). He’s likely got a GI parasite and is declining in health on my best guess. Take him to the vet (4th time someone telling you this). Bring fresh crap in a ziplock bag from that same day so the vet can do a fecal float test and diagnose if your lizard is sick.
