 FEMALE PREGNANT

Hey I’m Clau,
My female bearded dragon is pregnant, i think, i mean she is really fat and you can feel something on her belly as you lift her up; so can you tell me what to do?

I don’t mean to sound like the grim reaper here but if she is pregnant you have only a minimal amount of time to get ready...usually they are bred and have a clutch of eggs every 20-30 days. Was your female with a male dragon? That is probably the 1st question to ask,,,do you have an incubator, 2nd question to ask...do you have a lay bin ready?...3rd question to ask...B...B

 FEMALE PREGNANT

Yes, I know....we did actually just ordered an incubator yesterday and yes she has been with a male dragon since forever....i don’t have the laying box ready, that’s what i don’t know, i don’t know which soil to use...and how much should I get it wet....or the temperatures she should be at, the humidity she should be at.....or also if I should separate them because the male has been fighting a lot with her and should I remove the eggs right after or should I leave her with them for a while?... I’m sorry I’m asking so many questions I just want to do it right....

First of all, never keep two beardies together except to breed...about 2 weeks together should do it...

Check out Breeding 101 and I will post a pick of my lay bin...B

Read 101 and then ask away...we will get you through thisLink

 FEMALE PREGNANT

I don’t know what cactus soil is...I go to Lowe’s and buy 2 40 pound bags of topsoil with no additives...I then boil a kettle of water and pour on the mound to make it packable...not wet...

This is what she will do...or at least this is what mine do...they seem to become very nervous/anxious and start pacing back & forth and window climbing. Mine always start scratching at the newspaper in their enclosure... Mine always lose their appetite for 24-48 hours before laying.

Put her in the laybin when this happens...take screen top from her tank and put heat light on it over the mound in the lay bin. Leave her be until nightime...then I would bathe her and move her back to her tank until the next day...and observe her behavior again. Put her in laybox again if showing above signs. The moisture and such should be ok from the previous day. I would turn the light on the mound for an hour or so before putting her in to warm it up a bit...

When she is ready she will start to dig a burrow, head first, and this may take a while to get it the way she wants it or she will have it dug in an hour. Then she will turn around and lay her eggs. She will cover them and pack it down. This is when I remove my girl to a warm bath...and begin excavating the eggs. This part can be tedious...

Take care Beth

 FEMALE PREGNANT

Should the eggs be completely buried once i pass them to the home made version? it’s got water underneath, two tubes holding a plastic net which is holding a fabric and we put some substrate Calci-sand and we buried them in without changing their position. The temperature is at 105 degrees and the humidity is 40% ......she laid 13 eggs by the way.....and i don’t know is that alright or do i need vermiculite???or to take them a little bit more out?
Is that i saw some pics and there was like a sort of oven where the eggs were...i don’t know it was weird and when you said cook...i was like OMG i really had to cook them for a while to get them hot or something i don’t even know what i was thinking LOL i just guess all stress with happiness made me crazy!

 FEMALE PREGNANT

If they are black and all squished under the soil then they are probably not good...I hate to say this but 105 degrees is way way too warm-the temps should be around 84 degrees...this will allow them to hatch at day 60-70 on average. You don’t bury the eggs under the vermiculite/perlite....you just put an indentation in the substrate and put them in...I have pics...I will look for some...

The last pic is the inside of my incubator after the babies started to hatch...the containers in the front have one baby each in them on misted paper towel. I like to keep my babies in incubator after they hatch for 24-36 hours and then I put them in their baby tanks which are 20 gallon tanks. I don’t put more than 5 to a tank.

Hope this helps...Beth
