 Is My Bearded Dragon Pregnant?

I’m some what new to this whole thing. I have 2 wonderful bearded dragons. One boy (Neo) and one girl (Trinity). I’ve had Trinity for 3 years and Neo just joined us about a month and a half ago. Since I have had them, I realized they have been mating because of all the things there doing such as the head bobbing, arm waving and biting of the neck. Now Trinity’s stomach seems to be getting larger, and she is acting out of the ordinary. She is digging like crazy and she can’t seem to sit still. She is constantly scratching at the glass like if she wants out or if she wants food, but she is not eating. I’m really concerned. If anyone can help me in any way, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks. FrogPrincess

It sounds like it....a lot. I suggest you make a lay box for her. I would scroll down the page to research incubators and lay boxes.

Oh My Gosh!!! I just posted that message yesterday and today, just about an hour ago I found one egg! Is this normal for her to only lay one leg for now??? It has a little dent! Is this bad??? What do I do??? What do I need to put in her lay box??? I know this is a lot of questions, but I am nervous, but very excited! Thanks. FrogPrincess

Hello You need to get her in a lay box ASAP a tupperare tub with vermiculite or even dirt ill work. The tub needs to be big enough so she can’t get out and so you can put a heat lamp on it. the soil or vermiculite needs to be wet but not soggy. Hopefully she’ll finish laying her eggs. If she doesn’t lay anynore eggs I strongly suggest you take her to the vets. Is she with the male in the same enclosure?? If so you need to seperate. I hope that helps

I know this is not a great thing but if you are not prepared to care for these babies (space, time, money and finding homes) then you should freeze the eggs.

Sorry but I forgot to add that you should not house them together. From now on you need to keep them seperate. She could lay eggs every month for many months to come from one mating. If at some point you actually want to breed them then you put them together for a week or two and that is all.

 Is My Bearded Dragon Pregnant?

Dragon Lady...I put her in a lay box as soon as I got home last night. I was only able to go to Wal Mart after work, so I just bought some soil and that’s what I am laying her in. I will just spray it with the water bottle when I get home that way it’s wet, but not too wet. I took Neo (the male) out already. Thanks so much for the help. As soon as I get home I will put a heat lamp on it, although...do you think I still need a heat lamp, because I just put the lay box back in her cage, and the cage has a heat light in it already. Well...thanks again for all your help. It is greatly appreciated. FrogPrincess

 Is My Bearded Dragon Pregnant?

Well Blue eyes...I appreciate your input, but nobody ever said that I didn’t have space, time, money and a good home for them to go to. I will not freeze my eggs. That’s horrible. If I couldn’t figure out how to do it myself I would atleast have someone come over and help me before I would ever think about freezing them. Yes, you might be concerned for the babies sake, but I was just trying to get a little extra help here besides the books, and pet shops. But thanks. FrogPrincess

My point is you are suppose to research everything before you even attempt breeding them, not after it has already taken place. I am not the only one with this opinion and I know that there are several people that come in this forum that would have said the same thing. I never said freezing them was a good thing, but neither is breeding them without any information.

I agree with BlueEyes also. Research, Prepare, THEN breed. Someone who bred intentionaly should never be asking the questions you have, you should already know the answers from the researching part.

That’s the whole point. People that breed their dragons accidently without having the things that they need to incubate, hatch, and raise them should freeze the eggs before throwing them away.

Blue Eyes...If you were trying to make a point to me that I should of researched before I put them together, well then...maybe you are right, but you did not say anything about that to me at all! You specifically told me that if I did not have the time, money or a good home for them then I shouldn’t of had them...and I was making a point by telling you that I never said I didn’t have the time, money or a good home for them. Your right, maybe I should of researched more than I did before putting them together and that was my choice. I am very good to Trinity and Neo and I am taking very good care of Trinity right now...and all I was doing was trying to get more opinions besides just the pet shop people who probably don’t even care about my lizards. But when I got your message, the first thing that came to my head was that you were coming to an awful conclussion about me and what I should do with my eggs, before even trying to help me. And if you were just trying to prove a point maybe you should of handled it a little differently. FrogPrincess

Sean, for your information...I NEVER SAID I WAS GOING TO THROW MY EGGS AWAY...so why would I freeze them???!!! I don’t understand why this was even told to me! This should of never been said. I hope this isn’t the kind of advice that you recommend to everyone that comes on this site looking for help. Sometimes in life not everything is planned perfectly! I just had some questions of what to do so I could go buy the things I need and get some advice on what I should and should not do...but I never once said I couldn’t do it!!! I am helping Trinity and her babies, and maybe it wasn’t planned , but Trinity and her babies will be great! Too bad not everyone is as perfect as you and Blue Eyes though, hu???

You are getting out of control and being very rude when no one was rude to you. You made it sound as if you bred them purposely and then suddenly want to know what to do. I think my point was pretty obvious. Freezing the eggs and throwing them out is more humane to babies then to hatch them and not be able to care for them and that is the situation a lot of people are in that come here. Most people don’t realize how expensive and time consuming it is or that they can lay eggs every month for a year and in the manner you asked for help you made is sound as if you didn’t know anything at all. If you don’t want the advice of breeders (myself and sean) then don’t come asking for help.

 Is My Bearded Dragon Pregnant?

Did you not know that your girl was gravid? Didn’t you notice her bulging egg filled belly in the last 20 days (probably more like 30 if she’s dropping singles in her cage)? Where have your questions been in the last month? No, not everything in life is planned out perfectly. Freezing was recomended because without the proper equipment already set up this clutch is all but gone. You asked for advice, and that’s good advice. Here’s more advice, be ready about every 20-30 days for the next several months, she can refertilize and drop many clutches off of 1 breeding. Did you ever get her in a lay box so that she could lay the rest? This isn’t brain surgery, a quick read through the back posts here would have given you all the info you needed to be ready when the eggs came. You may very well think I’m rude and I may be a little harsh on this subject but if you want to get into the realm of breeder instead of pet owner get used to it. As a breeder you are expected to be an expert with these things.

Sean

frogprincess, do not take this as rude. there have been way to many abuse stories and blue eyes and heartmountian are both great breeders and people. they were only stating that if you didn’t have the stuff you needed by the time she started dropping singles then you migh wnat to consider freezing before they die from the cold which would be more painful.you could freeze the first batch, and get everything up and running well for her second batch. it may sound heartless but that is not the case. it is like putting an animal to sleep, it takes away most pain. just please think about that and don’t try to raise them just to prove a pint to sean and blue.

 Is My Bearded Dragon Pregnant?

I’m sorry if I seem rude. The last thing that I wanted to hear was how to kill the eggs. If it would of been explained more which it eventually was...then I wouldn’t of got so upset. I was just so worried about Trinity and the eggs, that I might of took it the wrong way. I’m really a nice person, and I’m sure that blue eyes and heartmountain are also. I was just stressed out and I apologize for being rude. Trinity eventually laided her clutch...21 eggs!!! It’s so exciting, but it makes me nervous at the same time. I got them in an incubator with vermiculite right now and so we’ll see how things go. Trinity is almost herself again. :) Thanks for all the help from everyone and special thanks to SpeacilK for showing me that blue eyes and heartmountain were just trying to help. I’ll let you know how the babies turn out!!! I hope to get a digital camera so I can post them and pictures of Trinity and Neo as well. Thanks again and once again...I apologize. Luv FrogPrincess

Trinity is a pretty good size beardie with a very light color~she’s beautiful! She doesn’t have any kind of designs or anything on her really. Actually, she does get a bit yellow sometimes. Neo is opposite...he is still a little smaller than Trinity and he is darker (but not too dark), and he has a pattern on him. I always say he looks like a snake on his belly. Without pictures...do you think you could help me find out what kind of beardie she is? Oh...and one more thing...if you don’t mind...is there any signs I should be watching out for with the eggs? I know the basics, but just maybe something you might want to tell me? Thanks so much for your time and consideration SpeacilK. Luv FrogPrincess

well im not an expert with eggs. i still haven’t bred mine but plan to in the future. and i can’t really tell you want kind it is without knowing what the parents are. because there are so many color morphs out there that unless you know the liniage you can’t be sure.
