New at breeding Hey,
My first advise would be to read "Breeding Beardies 101" down below a few threads by Heartmountain.
Make sure you don’t breed your girl until she is at least 18 months old and no less than 350 grams. If you breed her before then, she will take the calcium that is intended for her bones and place it into the eggs.
As far as the incubator, I would just go to a feed store and pick up a little giant incubator. Used to incubate chicken eggs. They are cheap and work great. That’s what I use. It’s never failed me.

New at breeding Well all I can say is to pack on the pounds would be to first weigh her and see what she is. If she is 18" and about 350 grams she is not under weight and should be fine but if she is less than that I would suggest using Phoenix Worms but clean them and dust with your calc. and vit. as usual. That is what I use for my baby and he is in great shape. Also keep a constant bowl of fresh veggies in with her. Handling her more might also spur on her appetite so maybe spend a little more one on one with her as exercise for her. Hope this helps, Chris.

New at breeding Hey,
Skip the meal worms. They are high in chiting and can cause your girl problems. At 8 months old she should be eating protein a couple of times a day all she can eat in a 15 minute period. She will slow herself down when she is ready. The protein is what helps these guys grow.
As far as the pictures, if you get yourself a photo bucket account.....you can post any size pic and photobucket will size them. Once the pics are on the photobucket, hover your mouse over the picture. Copy the very last ling, and then paste here where you type your message.

New at breeding Well I can’t tell what she is but she is real pretty. It looks like she has some citrus, red or sandfire, and tiger but its too hard to tell just by looking at her. Without knowing the parents there is no sure way of knowing. Sorry I couldn’t help you more.

New at breeding Thats funny you would say blood cause thats what I was thinking. If you were to use something with tiger in it that should also produce some nice looking babies. But then again I’m a huge fan of the tiger stripes. : )

New at breeding i think u should buy one considering it is your first time and u can always use it again, but if u make an incubator it is a chance that there might be a problem with lighting or heat

New at breeding If you really want to breed, my suggestion would be to get another female as well as a male. Choose decent morphs, and breed for health/color. Don’t breed her just because she’s the only female you have, she doesn’t sound like breeding material to me.
Did you get her from Petco or something? If so, she is most likely an inbred normal, and shouldn’t be reproducing...
Also, please have a stool sample checked by a vet. Parasites are a common reason for them to lose weight.
She should be eating WAY more than 30 crickets a week at 8 months!! Mine eat more than that every day!
What greens and supplements are you using? What UVB lighting? What are your temps?

New at breeding Umm... going through this post, it really doesn’t seem like you are ready to be breeding. If you DO decide to breed... DO YOUR RESEARCH on different morphs to learn what crossing can produce what. Don’t just go into it blindly and produce whatever because thats what you have. If you like orange/yellow hypo’s... get a nice breeding pair and do that. If you like leatherbacks.. do that, or translucents, or hypo-translucents... and so on. You can also do combinations of all of them. Don’t just breed what you cause thats what you have. Its important when breeding to be patient and CHOOSE the dragons you want to breed for the TRAITS you want to breed for... not just breeding whatever is on hand. If you want to save time and buy adult, thats ok too. I would suggest buying babies, so you know how the colors change as they get older. Learn how different crosses produce what, and choose a nice dragons according to what you find that you like. There are WAAAAAAAAAY too many awesome possibilities that can be worked with rather than messing with normals. Plus... how do you plan on getting rid of 50 or so normal dragons? I guarantee it will be VERY difficult, if not impossible. You can get some nice colorful morphs online now for the price of a pet store normal. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Classifieds like Kingsnake, and Fauna are a good place to just look around and get to know your morphs before jumping into it. Breeder websites are also great. Look at their babies, then at the parents that produces them, and so on. If you breed a yellow and a red dragon together... you will most likely get a mix of all yellows, all reds, or ones with both traits passed down, or ANY combination of all of them. You really need to read up.
Here are some good links Ive found on reptile/bd genetics:
Link 1
Link 2 (focuses on ball pythons, but applies to all reptiles)

New at breeding Hey, I just saw the pictures of her too... she is very nice looking! I love those stripes! It is hard to say whether those are genetic or not and will be passed down... you would have to breed her to find that out. Do you have any adult pictures of her? From those pictures I would say any kind of red or orange male would probably produce nice babies. You could even try like a citrus tiger or something to see of those tiger stripes get passed down.
It might be difficult to get rid of the babies if you don’t know her exact genetics though. You could just freeze all but like 5 or so of the eggs, that way you dont have to worry about getting rid of 20 or so baby dragons and risk getting stuck with them.
