 What’s wrong with my eggs?!

Hey Guys,
My beardie laid her first clutch of eggs on April 24st, there were 28 eggs in all.
But the thing is, we didn’t have an incubator then, so we just put the eggs in a little tubs, inside of the laybox which is just a big tub full of dirt, and put a thermometer in each little tub, and clamped a heat lamp to the side of the big tub. I moistened the soil that was in the smaller tubs that the eggs were in, and put a cup of water in the big tub, and also constantly sprayed the eggs. We had ordered a hovabator the 20th of april, and it hadn’t come in yet, so this was just a make shift incubator.

I don’t think this egg was like this from the start, but when i checked on the eggs, this is what it looked like, and smelled bad.

and another picture

I was afraid to pick it up because i thought it was going to burst ( at least that is what it felt like )

I froze that egg, but now more of my eggs are starting to smell bad, and i don’t know what is wrong with them, some are actually starting to grow mold i think too.
those eggs are now in the incubator that i got on the 29th, but for some reason they started to smell worse after being in the incubator.
Is it the soil that is doing this? I should get some hatch rite soon, I would have gotten some earlier, but I have been swamped with Dutch Dance because of Tulip Time up here in Michigan, I will try to get some tonight.

I Really need some help figuring out what is wrong with the eggs though.

Thank you so much guys,

Jamie

What kind of temperature and humidity are you keeping them at?

Are they still in soil? Try to switch to Vermiculite or Pearlite - I’ve used both, usually the eggs won’t mold in those. Also, I don’t think your supposed to spray directly on the eggs- Oxygen somehow passes through the shell.. I hope your incubator comes soon!!

 What’s wrong with my eggs?!

My Incubator came in exactly one week ago, The eggs got worse in it though
Even the ones I thought were doing okay don’t look too well, they aren’t all white, the bottoms are sort of brownish (maybe the soil stained them or something, I don’t know)
I got a new thermometer that can tell the humidity now, but I didn’t check what the humidity was this morning because I had to rush to get to school.
I will definitely check when I get home though, I also really need to get some vermiculite.

Do you guys think I should just freeze the eggs and wait for the next clutch, or should I just keep these eggs and hope they hatch? (some of them have a bunch of mold on them >.< )

Thanks guys, hope we can figure this out,

Jamie

Jamie, The ones you suspect are bad freeze them. The ones with the mold are probably due to the dirt they are in. I don’t think these guys will be healthy either and mold is known to spread quickly to other eggs. You can get ready for the next clutch . No one would blame you. Take good care Beth
