 Double Het?

Random question: My female was sold to me as a "Double het". I thought this meant that her mother and father were both het for the same thing, say... hypo, and she came out normal. Now I’m reading adds on kingsnake that double hets are hypo and translucent.

Now that I’m lost... What does "double het" generally mean?

Also, I know that "het" means the genes are there, just not expressed... But what is a 50% het???

Thanks in advance for any answers! :)

 Double Het?

Just a quickie of genetics. When breeding a hypo to a trans. you will get hypo’s, tran’s, hypo trans, and double hets. Het for both hypo and translucent. Since both parents were homozygous (hypo or trans.), all the offspring will either be homozygous (hypo, trans, or hypo tans.) or heterozygous (dbl. het) for both. This is just a short form and can be broken down more thorough.

 Double Het?

here is a good link: Link
And another on all reptile genetics/breeding: Link

here, it says that a normal x het. for hypo will produce half 50% possible het. for hypo., and half normals. A het. hypo x het. hypo will produce half 66% het. hypo, 25% will be 100% hypo’s, and the other 25% will be normals. Its all kind of confusing... Im still trying to learn it all myself. Hopefully this helped out a bit. Ive been asking questions about genetics on here too, but no one answers me lol, so Ive just been googling away! Good luck!
