Really good priced mealworms Impact... not "compact." lol. Mealworms have a harder shell which is composed of something called chitin (I think its pronounced Kye-tin). It is much harder for them to digest and if they eat too much of it, it can get blocked up inside their intestines (basically, it gets IMPACTED in there), and it becomes very difficult for them to pass, especially in baby dragons. Ive never fed them, but I believe its OK every once in a while as a treat, but there are much better treats to give them. Superworms are Ok in moderation. They are a completely different species than mealworms, and don’t contain the hard chitin shell. I have heard stories of supers eating through the stomachs of lizards... although Im not sure this is true. A lady at my work claims she had it happen to a leopard gecko of hers a few years ago... but I dunno if I believe it. They say to chop off the head to avoid this... Ive never seen or heard of anything of the sort though personally. You will sometimes hear them called "King Mealworms," not to be confused with Giant mealworms, which is just a larger form of the meal worm as far as I know. Be careful cause beardies CAN become addicted to superworms. I was feeding supers for about a month cause I ordered like 500 of them, and after they were gone my beardie refused to touch anything else for a few weeks.
A better worm is silkworms, which are excellent and can be fed as a staple. There are also hornworms, pheonix worms (also very healthy and high in calcium... but stay pretty small), waxworms as treats, butterworms as treats, and I think Im missing a few others. I would feed any of these rather than supers or mealies.
