This is the first picture of him, taken the day he hatched. The little guy on the right, as you can see, is really small compared to his sibling. I have 16 hatchlings, and out most of them hatched the same day, the little guy hatched a day later. He hatched September 23. So he is a couple weeks old. During those few weeks, his siblings have been growing bigger (and fatter.) While this little guy hadn’t been eating, the first week I thought he was just living off his yolk sack, but two weeks ago I noticed he was really skinny and weak, so I’ve tried to hand feed him baby food mixed with calcium, and water since then. About a week ago I read something about using chicken and rice baby food with a little calcium mixed in, as a good food for beardies who need more protein, or babies BD’s that are not eating. I knew that the little guy desperately needed the calcium and protein, but we didn’t have chicken baby food, and I wasn’t able to get to the store to buy some. We had some left over chicken meat from the chicken we used to make chicken noodle soup, It was unseasoned and it had been boiled. I blended that with some calcium, vitamin powder, a little water and squash baby food. I got it to a little thicker than paste texture, and tried to feed him as much as i could over the next few coming days. A couple days ago, I accidentally left it out, so it dried up. So I only had water to give him, because he won’t eat crickets or veggies. Today I went and got 3 little jars of chicken baby food, (it had more protein than chicken and rice) and mixed a bit with a little bit of calcium and vitamin powder, and tried desperately to feed him. If I put a little on the tip of his nose he will lick it very slowly and only a little bit, and then he will stop. He will then close his eyes and just sit there. A couple weeks ago, when he was like that, I would just have to move him a little to get him to open his eyes and eat a little more, but over the days he has been getting worse. He will just keep his eyes closed now. When I had the real chicken mixture, I could force feed him, I would lightly pinch the sides of his mouth, and he would open wide, as if to bite me, and I put a bite sized blob in his mouth. I did that a few times, and it worked for a little while, but now it doesn’t. Today he would barely eat. I thought that maybe it was the taste, but I fed some to the other babies and they went nuts and loved it. These are the pictures I took today
Little guy, is really small compared to the normal sized baby, he is really tiny :( I planned on selling all of the babies, but the moment I laid eyes on this little guy I fell in love, and knew I had to save him, I had A lot of hope in saving this little guy, but He’s just getting weaker and weaker.. I’m Not going to give up on him. But I don’t know what else to do to help him. I don’t have the money to take him to a vet I really need some help or advice Sorry about the long post, Thank You very much, Jamie |

Poor baby, he is so tiny! I am going through the same thing right now with my girls second clutch, although he is not quite as bad as your little one. He hatched late as well, and is much smaller than the others and will not eat on his own. What I am doing right now is blending up chicken based baby food, with squash baby food, adding greens well blended to the mix, a little calcium, and a little bee pollen from a capsule. You can get bee pollen capsules from any health food store, it will help boost the immune system. I have been feeding this mix to mine for a few days now and yesterday was the first day he has been more alert and bopping around, so it is working. I would suggest this mix with the bee pollen. It’s wonderful for sick or lethargic beardies, especially babies. Get yourself a syringe or dropper, and offer 2-3cc 3 or 4 x a day and see how it goes. Best of luck to you, I hope he makes it. Oh, and give him lots of warm soaks as well, he looks a little dehydrated. Let him soak for 20 min or so in lukewarm water, as long as the vent area is in the water it will help him rehydrate... You’re doing all you can for this little guy, and you’re doing great. As Nancy said, make sure you keep him hydrated by misting him lightly with warm water a couple of times a day. You could also try and give him a bath is very shallow warm water mixed with some pedyalite. It’s up to him now. The syringe idea is a good one, but be very careful because with a baby that small the jaw can be broken very easily. Also, do not insert the tip of the syringe all the way back so as not to get any in the wind pipe. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Edel |
