Dragons should be 350 before breeding so that dragon was a healthy weight. I have been told by people in Australia that their dragons are not as big as ours here in the states. I believe it’s completely normal for them to be 16-18 inches which are totally healthy sizes. There are not many dragons that are pushing 2 feet. Most people who are breeding do not have dragons of that size and your comments were mean and unnecessary.

How do you know if the dragons are brother and sister?

Breeders have just the right to ask questions as anyone else. 16-18 inch dragons are normal sizes.

Bad people like her are NOT ruining the species, as she isn’t a bad person and the species isn’t being ruined. Its bad people like you that ruin these forums.

What you said was COMPLETELY uncalled for, and extremeley hateful and rude..

i don’t know what was said that was rude and I am glad I missed it, but thanks for defending. most things that i have read say the female has to be minimum of 300 g and I was also told this by Heartmountain. She is about 15 inches and he is about 18 inches.

hey all, im not trying to be mean at all its just that with the dragons available now a days (they are killing the species) and if this goes on for a few more years we will be having inbreds, mini beardies and dragons with missing parts, and dragons that SHOULD BE double in size full grown. When dragons were smuggled out of australia here in about the 70s they were huge and in the past 10 years they have basically shrunk to 2/3 the size of that they should be. We already have a poor bearded dragon stock here in the US and theres irresponsible people breeding them each and everyday not knowing where the parents of there breeders came from they just do it because they think its cute they’ll make a lot of money. And i know this because the local vet calls me asking if i would take a clutch because of irresponsible people.

Eileen:
I think you should freeze the eggs for many reasons
Your female is only 15 inches at this size she could possibly be an inbred who knows.(wow we may have double inbred babies yes!)And her size could’ve affected her during egg laying. Because the size of her egg laying tract is so small and all beardie eggs are the same size she could’ve had problems laying the eggs ur very lucky on that. And if there was a problem u would have to delt with the vet because she could’ve gotten egg bound.
You probably dont know any history on ur breeders. Like where they came from? the parents size there cross generation to generation?Do u have tanks set up u’ll need about 4 tubs per clutch u need uvb for all of them they need to be fed 3 times daily sprayed 3 times daily and so on and so on.

I hope im not coming off mean i just speak the truth.

Alright, enough of this crap already. I’ve let this go on without commenting because basically it’s none of anybody’s business. I’ve been helping Eileen with this over pm’s for a while now. Her dragons met more than minimum requirements for breeding, bigger is always better but not all dragons are german giants. Natural full healthy weight varries for each dragon just like in humans. The only reason the post was even here is because her hovabator was delayed and the eggs came before it got in. She posted the pic so that I could see the temporary setup and give my oppinion, that’s it.... It was never meant for you or anyone else to draw your own conclusions without any knowlege of what the circumstances are or the background/history of her dragons. Get off it. It was a legitimate breeding and she has met all of the recomended requirements for responsible breeding that are within her ability.

Oh, and of course breeders can ask questions also. Even experienced breeders bounce ideas off of each other, although we usually do it in e-mails or pm’s so that we don’t have to put up with this kind of crap but we do do it.

Thanks Sean. I am still oblivious to what was said in the thread that was removed. From the sounds of it, MBDragons thinks I have in-bred dragons. If that is the case I would not know, I do not know the original owners but I do know they bred them before selling them. I purchased them as a breeding pair from the pet store. Yes I know pet stores usually do not know any better, but I wasn’t aware of that until I read some of the threads on here after I purchased them. I adore my dragons and they are well taken care of, so for someone who does not know me or my dragons you are awful judgemental. I spoke to Sean, who after reading many of his comments/threads and checking out his website, he is a trusted and knowledgeable advisor. Personally I do not care what anyone else thinks of my situation. Thanks again Sean for all your help!!

if u bought them as a pair from the pet store they are more than likely to be brother and sister and this may explain why the eggs are dropping like flys

The pet store had a sign saying breeding pair. What makes you so sure my eggs are dropping like flies? Where do you get your information?

To my knowledge Eileen has only seen one clutch from her, even if the dragon has laid before, so I would hardly say they are dropping like flies. Now, what happened at the Petstore or before they got there is not her fault. She is doing the best as she can, and came here to get help, not get judged. You are doing the right thing Eileen and SEAN is an excellent source of GOOD information and advice.

hey did ur dragons burmate cuz if they did not that could be a possiable reason the eggs are not doing well and dont freez them if they are im bred they will most likly not live through the first week when they hatch.

Weren’t they dropped off at the pet store as a breeding pair? The pet store didn’t raise a couple of babies and sell them as a breeding pair is how I understood it......if I’m thinking of the same thing? Regardless of whether or not they are related there are other reasons for a female to lay an infertile clutch of eggs so I still don’t understand what the big deal is.

yes they were dropped off at the pet store as a breeding pair. they were at the pet store for only 4 days before I got them. The sign said breeding pair, but they would sell them separate even though they preferred not to.
