Jabba laid 2nd clutch,?’s!!! heartmountain?
1. Is it okay that the eggs stayed buried in the lay box over night, I’m guess it was no more than 6-7 hours from the time we fell asleep untill when we woke up.. The box had a night-lite red heat bulb, temp was about 80ish? 2. These eggs look about the same as the first clutch, in which none of them made it...I didn’t think the first ones were really yellow, but this time using the perlite, the eggs against the white look very discolored..the last clutch was her first and I know alot of times theres not a great succes rate with 1st’s, but the eggs have to be fertile if shes had a refertilaztion, right?i know some look really bad, but what do you guys think?
3. The incubator we last used was a used one a lady who owned a pet store decided to sell us ( it had belonged to her)..and it turned out to be a real piece.NOWHERE around here sells them, and I honestly wasn’t expecting another clutch...So I got plans from kingsnake.com for this one using an underwater heater....Is this accetable, or no?The thermometer in the water is reading about 90, but the eggs are not touching the water, the thremometer in the box is reading 84..I do have a lid on the box.
3. I know I really should have known this before we had our first "accident"...But now that I know they can lay so many clutches from one breeding..... What is the average.. and is it healthy? I’m a nervous wreck watching Jabba go through the swelling up, then not eating, then looking so worn down...I really hope this is her last... and like I’ve said before I do not let them alone together anymore ( her and the male) but will for exaple, just being in the same room cause her to continue to produce infertile clutchs?? like throuw her hormones off? She looks so skinny... more than last... is she okay?

2. Nope, they don’t have to be fertile for a "refertilization". Sometimes females will throw dud clutches even if they haven’t been with a male. It’s unpredictable usually but I have known females that will do it every month they’re out of brumation. Incubate them and see what happens is all I can tell you. 3. It’s acceptable but a real pain in the butt to maintain temp on. If you can find a chicken incubator around town that would work better but as long as you’re careful and keep an eye on it these will work ok. 3b. There really isn’t an "average", some will only lay 1 the most I’ve heard of is 18 but most of mine usually go somewhere between 4-8. It’s not entirely bad for them as long as they’re old enough, weigh enough, and you up their protein and supps during. Any breeding will creat some stress on them so it’s not exactly good for them either lol. Sean |
