Are they all dead?
My beardie laid eggs two days ago and I think I killed them. This is her third clutch but a first for me. I have them in a incubator, temp is aroung 86 F and humidity is around 84. I was hoping that I did everything right but guess not. When I went ot check yesterday, I noticed that they had a rotten smell to them. I guess some of them died but I don’t know if all of them did. I think i know what killed them...when my incubators heat went down(for some odd reason)i turned it up just a tad and when i next checked on them it was around 90 F so i turned them down again. it is back to around 86 F. Is there anyway to tell if they are all dead? Please help...thanks!

Are they all dead?
I set mine to 82 on the advice of this board, allowing for fluctuation. 86 seems high to begin with...

| That sucks, but a short jump to 90 shouldn’t have killed them. Are you sure it’s not the water you’re smelling??? I’ve had it go rancid before and it really reaks. I’d drop the temp a little more, like maybe 83-84 then if it fluctuates some you shouldn’t hit the danger zones. As far as how to check them, put a cone on a flashlight and shine it through. If you see veins they’re fertile, even if you don’t see anything I wouldn’t throw them out until they either totally collapse or start molding and then only those ones. Sean

I agree. Also (Frogs) 86F is safe as long as you don’t fluctuate more than 2 degrees...I don’t do that but I know some people that do, I know people that incubate at 88F.

Are they all dead?
Well, seven were definitly dead but four seemed to survive. the smell hasn’t gone away yet. It isn’t the eggs that smell though so it might be the water. what i have the eggs in (don’t remember the name) ran out what can I substitute for it. Sand?

Are they all dead?
Sand won’t hold any moisture. You need to use vermiculite or pearlite.
