 Tring to feed him in a seperate container????

So im trying to get my dragons to eat in a rubber maid container and one does ok but the other gets all freaked out and runs all around trying to what it looks like get the hell out. Ive tried leaving them in there for a bit but they wont eat and the second I take them out and put a cricket to their face with my tongs they eat right away. Ive not been feeding them for a day or so to see if they get hungry and one got hungry and went to town but the other still wont eat in the container even after a day or so of no crickets. Any advice would be nice...

I brought my male home for the fisrt time and decided to feed my male and female and i had him on the ground beside my rubbermaid and i dropped a couple crickets and he was all over them, then i put him in the rubbermaid and he ran right at the walls lol

They are probably uncomfortable in the rubbermaid containers because they aren’t used to them. Do you have any kind of a substrate in there? Try putting paper towels or reptile carpet on the bottom to make it more comfortable (or if you use another solid substrate in their cages, use that). Put solid colored paper around the sides of the container so they can’t see out (this might make them less nervous and stop trying to get out).

If the container is large enough to hold them, set up a little basking light to keep them warm in there and just leave each one for a while to let them get used to it. It’s like taking a little kid to a restaurant for the first time, they have to go a few times before they learn how to just shut up, behave, and eat their food : )

It sounds to me like you just need to give them to somebody who actually loves them and doesn’t feel the need to call them names every time they don’t do exactly what you want. Why do they HAVE to eat in a different enclosure? I feed both my beardies in their enclosure with no problems. I just throw 5 or 6 crix in, wait for them to finish and then throw a few more in. When they’re done they tell me by going to their basking spots.

Lovely, and you are a child and you don’t understand as well then?

If they climb the big rock, take it out while feeding. Put it back in when done. I’ve never had an animal eat in a seperate container, some just feel more comfortable eating from " home".

I think he just likes having them for show. That’s just what I get from seeing all his posts. I’ve seen him comment negatively on other poster’s beardies because they have deformities (missing toes, part of tails, etc.). It’s sad that having something to show off is a reason for somebody to get a new pet rather than to have something to love.

It’s like calling a baby a name because he is not eating his veggies. Tone of voice tells them you are not happy with them and puts stress on them. Stress is not good for any living thing!!!

First of nice cage btw.Secondly mate you should never insult your beardies just because they cant eat in where you want them to.Thirdly crickets climb up the walls all the time so thats no biggy or you can get some tweezers and nock them down .Seriously i agree that the comment about you "to show off your pet". But sometimes you might have the best cage and best berdie but you don’t treat him properly is wrong.Names can not only make the beardie stress it can also make beardies aggresive to there owners(good look).About showing your beardie off to impress is not right.We cant all have the biggest,fastest,longest,fatest but we can all have the healthy and happy beardie no matter how long,big,fat and fast it is.So mate you should start showing your beardies with respect otherwise your a very agressive owner and thats not good.By the way i am very aggressive but would never be aggresive to my pets because its like animal cruelty.And its animals which calm me down.

Well I sure hope you’re not screamin at them because thats just wrong no doubt about it, im sure you know that. It was a dumb comment saying you call them whatever it was you call them whether you actually call them that, or you’re just saying that you think that. Everybody is making a HUGE deal out of absolutely nothing.

Save it, everyone. The reasonable thing to do was to give him advice as to how to feed in a separate container and make his beardies feel more comfortable in it. There are MANY good reasons to feed in a separate container. That is the information that will help his dragons, which is the whole point of this forum.

I am not saying that he should have called them names, but you all are just as bad for indulging this! He obviously takes good care of them and that’s really all that matters. Spend time on people who need it.
