Answer your question is.. if you have nooo clue what a beardie is and what they need then dont get one at all. I would adopt if you dont care of the age. There are a lot of adults out there that need good homes. If you know what your "future" beardie needs.. please inlighten me.... |

And to you Turtle Dude 100, If you aren’t that experienced with beardies or don’t know a lot about them. Then i would go with an adult. They are easier to take care of then a little baby. Also don’t be worried about you thinking that an adult will be more mean or something like that, because beardies are very nice animals, and yes, like any animal they may have been miss treaded as a baby so there is always a chance that it can be mean. But just take to the previous owner/shelter if you can’t go see the beardie yourself, (if you find one online that you like). But if there is a local shelter near you that has adult beardies then i would say go there and hold them and see what you like. |

Just make sure you also have the right elements for him as well. Digital thermometers, basking bulb, uvb bulb, something high to bask on, calcium without vitd3 and then calcium with vitd3..daily without and once weekly with the vitd3. And something like tile or papertowels for the substrate. Also, collards and musturd greens etc for his daily veggies and crickets no bigger than the space between his eyes will do just fine! You will be set! Make sure his tank is 20 gallons or bigger too! Show pics if and when you get him!! Good luck to you! |

It would be alot easier to tell you what you need if you tell us what you’re planning to get. Make a list and we will fill in the blanks. |

Substrate: paper towels, newspaper, paper towels, ceramic tiles or ceramic tiles. Many people will advise against using sand because the lizard may eat it & it may cause impaction. I agree & would rather be safe then sorry! You said you will have a 30 gallon tank? 30 gallons is ok to start with if you decide to purchase a baby. However, an adult dragon will require a 40 gallon breeder tank as a minimum. |

Quote: I know it needs a 30 gal. cage, that special light, some stuff to climb on (what’s best?), a dome like house, and some sort of ground coverage (what?) and a shallow water dish. Feed it as many crickets the size in between his eyes as he can eat in 7-10 minutes. What else and what is the prices?
Lennifer gave some good advice but I’d like to add on to it. You need a digital thermometer with a probe. Walmart has one called accurite for $12. You need a good supplement like Repcal or Jurrascial (phosphorus free, D3 free calcium and a multivitamin). You need to feed a baby beardie as many crix (or roaches, silkworms) as he will eat for a 15 minute period 3 times a day, not just once a day. Seeing as how you were pretty vague on what you thought you needed for a beardie, I’d also recommend you do more research on them. Try to get your enclosure set up first and your temps right BEFORE you get a beardie. |
