 Silkworms as a staple?

I’m getting a lot of conflicting info on this ... I know beardies will still need their greens, but as far as the insects go, are silkies nutritious enough to feed as a staple? Are they healthy enough? Not too fatty? Etc?

silks are prefect for them infact a chemical inside the silkworms help to asorb the calcium into there system. so yeah you can have silkies as a staple diet.

We gave him a silky, a big one, just for a treat/test, he loved it, but then gave a less formed poop. Is it bad if it’s not as formed? Usually it’s like little logs, this was just a blob. Same color and all though. Is it just cuz silkies have no exo or should we be concerned or what?

That’s normal. Silks contain alot more moisture than crix do. This can cause their stool to be runny.

So I shouldn’t consider it diarrhea? Won’t hurt him? The lady at the store (who seemed iffy) said they’re too fatty for a staple, but I know a few people who swear by them ...

Aparently, the lady at the pet store doesn’t know to much about them. They will not hurt him at all.

True that.. silks are really pretty low in fat, but high in calcium and protein. -Jay
