 Another MBD?

okay so yesterday i noticed that my little guy was twitching from his toes and from his fingers constantly and sometimes his whole body would shake. i am pretty sure its mbd because now he cant walk and i cant get him to eat. i made an appointment with the vet but its until monday so i was wondering if anybody knew how to get him to eat? i read somewhere about mixing baby food with calcium and feeding through a syringe but i dont know how much i should give him.

Hey,

Was it his legs that were shaking or his arms? Do you have a UVB for him? What is your substrate and what are you feeding him? What are his temps?

Awe! I hope he will be ok!

If you want lots of info on MBD, talk to Reflex. He rescued a dragon in a very advenced stage of MBD. He’s had her for a few years now. So he could probably give you some awesome advice.

Good luck with your dragon! I hope he’ll he ok!

Hey,

Are you dusting with calcium? Does it have D3 or no De. Sometimes too much D3 will make them shake as well. It is very toxic if you give too much. These guys make the d3 within their skin with the help of the sun, in our case, the uvb. If you are giving too much d3 and he has a uvb, this could be the cause as well.

Even so he could be impacted, try to give him a warm bath and see if his belly is hard or has hard knots in it..if he cant walk and or is dragging his legs he might be impacted. Try that, but please answer the question Edel (Dragon Lover) asked you! :) Good luck!

Generally, with impaction, the back legs tend to just twitch. The fist signs of MBD is when they tend to do full body trembles. Mtorks, your dragon seems to have MBD. Edel could also be right, too much D3 tends to do that, too. You NEED to make sure you have a REPTISUN 10.0 UVB in there, or a REPTIGLO 8.0 other ones have been known to cause serious problems. And also make sure that you are dusting the food with calcium dust and feeding foods with low oxalates. Also make sure they can get close enough to the UVB source. I personally don’t use calci with D3 powder, maybe once a month max. With proper husbandry, you can reverse this before his bones start becoming soft and bend.

Does he take any interest whatsoever in live food? Can he move at all? Anyway, yes, baby food works wonders on very sickly dragons. I usually use squash and chicken/veal baby food (don’t need to be mixed ogether) and put a bit at a time on his nose so he can lap it up. Just do a teaspoon to a few teaspoons at a time, depending on how much of it he will accept. Keep trying to feed solid foods at the same time, though, because you don’t want him on baby food for long, it can cause diarrhea. When my girl was really sick, I would use the soft beardie bites (in place of the meat baby foods) from the pet store. This ended up getting her VERY interested in live foods.

Can you clarify what you mean by "sometimes"? If you’re only dusting with calcium every once in awhile, this could be your problem.

No he is not interested in live food at all. he does move around but only about twice in a day dragging himself. what i meant by sometimes dusting is that in a full week i would give him calcium like three times throughout the week. I did go on vacation for two weeks and came back this past Sunday. i left my brother in charge of him but i don’t think he gave him calcium or vitamins. I did notice that when i took him outside to get some sunlight he did get a little bit more active so maybe I’ll try feeding him outside and see if that works. I’ll keep you guys posted on his condition and see what the vet says. Thanks for all your help
