 Feeded dead crickets

Now, I know that beardies prefer to have there food alive and active, BUT, is it ok to feed dead crickets, like the ones sold in plastic bottles. Although I would be feeding types of worms that will be alive. So I wouldn’t be completely feeding a dead diet, along with veggies. I do know that dead crickets lack nutrients but I could dust them with calcium before hand. Is that healthy to feed and if not, is there some way to make it healthier without have to always have to feed live?

Freeze dried crix are full of preservatives and really should only be fed as a treat if at all.

I figured there was some kind of downfall to them. Do crickets have to be a main part of a beardies diet? What about other insects? lol, preferably ones that dont make as much noise My problem is is that the noise that the crickets produce is not only slightly annoying but its unavoidable in a one bedroom apartment lol.

lol yea crickets can get pretty noisy, i hear ya! Try silkworms, they make a good staple diet for any reptile, as i have heard lobster roaches as well, but i have never had roaches due to the fact that i cannot get them anywhere and i live in Canada and cannot even manage to find an online store to order them that ships to Canada, which is a bummer for me because i would love to try them. You could also try superworms or even waxworms but those are for a treat only. Good luck.

Yeah, crickets are full of phosphorus and honestly I am making the transition to no more crickets. The phosphorus is very bad for the beardies kidneys and thats why we dust them with calcium I just found out, b/c the calcium cant be absorbed with a lot of phosphorus in their body (it counteracts/voids the calcium) and it messes them up. I’ll get the post about it for you.
Anyways....I order roaches off line. They have a great meat to shell ratio and are very fattening. So, if you want, you can move to themstrickly. Go to LLLreptile.com and go to the feeder section. Make sure to get the sizes that are between the dragons eyes. Also, you can breed the lobsters pretty easy, you just need the rubbermaid thing and a heat pad or a clamp light to keep them warm... But if you dont want to breed them then get the dubia roaches. You will see it all. Pretty simple. I would also try silk worms...but before you go spending the money try the wax worms from the pet store. If your beardie isnt intrested then..your in the same boat with me! :) The roaches are good though. I dust mine every day with every feeding.. mainl cuz mine is a baby still! Good luck though! :)

Here you go.. this explains it!!

Too much phosphorus in the diet makes the calcium insoluble in which case the dragon’s body will not absorb the calcium. As the body continues to absorb the phosphorus, it abolishes (in a way) the calcium which, in turn, could cause metabolic bone disease. (written by Edel) :)
