i never spray the tank since the humidity isnt that good for them it can cause uri. i give them baths once -three times a week. in luke warm water up to there shoulders and le them drinkfrom there i dont have a water dish either since it can add humidity. the towel is awesome. my adults are on towels, you can keep them on it, paper towels, tiles, as long as its solid substrate he ll do fine! 1. get a digital thermometer that has a probe (wire) coming out or get temp gun. That round one is crap and it in the middle of the tank wont do. You can find these anywhere..walgreens, rite aid, walmart. 2. take out that sand!!! Put paper towels for now. They never lived on sand in thw wild..a lot of people think they did..but they didnt. Plus, a captive bred beardie will live 10+ yrs with a good setup..etc. 3. you need a higher basking area. Those rocks are good but if you cant tell, your beardie is leaning up against the glass so she can get higher. They need 110-115 degrees as babies for a constant 12 hours. And only a digital thermometer will tell you this or a temp gun. 4. you need to have the basking spot in one end of the tank and then no lights on the other end..at least that permit heat. Then you need to get the long uvb like I told you to order off of LLLreptile.com. ASAP! To answer your above questions. You should feed her as many as she will eat in a 15 minute period. During the day you can let the roaches/crickets sit in the tank so if she wants a snack, she can dive down and get one. OR, you can take out the rest and feed again at lunch time and dinner time. They need a consistant feeding. Like if you wake her at 8 am let her sit on her basking spot for a good 2 hours and put some finely chopped greens like collards or dandelion greens... while she is warming up. Then at 10am feed her first feeding...or you can feed her at 12 noon.. as many as she wants. The best way to do it is, just plop one in at a time...let her eat it and then plop another. She will gradually start to dive for them as time goes on. Then let her bask for about 3 hours or so and then feed her around 3 or 5 pm... as many as she eats.. Just make sure that whenever you put her to bed if it is on this schedule..8pm, that she hasnt eatin in a good 2-3 hours for she needs to digest her food before she shuts down for the night. At night, her temps shouldnt get below 65 if they do you can turn your heat on in your house and close the vents to the other rooms..this will bump the heat in her tank up. If not then get a CHE (ceramic heat emitter) and make sure you get the ceramic bulb holder..you will see all this at the pet store. They are pricey..but only needed if you cant keep temps at 70 or so. They need pure darkness at night sothey can get theri rest. And make sure the insects are out of the tank for they can chew at her and cause infection and or amputation!! When she poops, make sure you get that out soon, so the insects dont eat it and then she eats it and then that will cause a parasite issue. Also, it is sanitary! :) I keep a small water bowl in my tank..not enough to make humidity but just enough for him to soak in or to drink if needed. I will show you some pics of my enclosure so you can get a better understanding of what I explained above. Good luck!!!! And I’ll help if needed! Keep us in touch! And keep the pics with a new pic of the dragon please! Thanks, L~ This first pic you can see him basking of course, but if you look behind him, you will see that wire. It needs to be directly on the basking spot...not above him. So when you get one..lay it on the part where the light basking bulb shines hardest.
This is him obviously getting his greens..but you can see the quanity and the size they need daily. In the cage not out like he is.. I was perparing it for my iguana and my beardie and had Scooter out so thought I’d take some pics!
This is him sleeping..they need to be able to just spead out and be comfy! :)
Ok, this pic shows his basking area and see how it is high up there it is slate tile and it is siliconed on the glass. The wire is on it as well. Then he has a log to climb down on when he gets warm..so he can maintain his heat but not over heat...
This pic shows the "coolside" which has no lights above the tank and that needs to stay around 80’s and I have a hammock and a little rock..they like to climb a little and run a lot..so have ampile space.
This pic is when I didnt have the slate baskng area...and the wire wasplaced on the log but his temps did get to 107 at least!! Thats the least they need. B/c babies need 102 to digest their food.
This pic is just the coolside again... I change it up sometimes.

1.) how high the basking spot needs to be and 2.) where the bulb needs to be positioned for the right amount of heat. It’s trial and error really. Just make sure you get these things done now b/c beardies dont like change...but I’m sure your lil girl/guy will, b/c she already looks happy with the log there! If I could take a pic of the way my guy is positioned now, I would but its 6 am and I’m not tryin to wake the hubby! eekk! I have plenty already though! Everything is looking better though. I love the towel too, but hopefully its not a terry cloth type cuz when your beardie poops you’ll know why I said this..its gonna soak in bad and stink and just be a mess. I would be soaking her in the evening after her second feeding about and hour after for about 10-15 minutes with warm water about 95 degrees (measured with a human thermometer) and the water should be about shoulder height. The sink is just fine. Just make sure you clean the sink good before and after bath time. This will help the sand move through her body..if there is any. A good way to tell is if when she poops, you take your fingers and pick it up and grind it to see if you feel grains of sand. Gross I know, but its well worth it. And if you want to help her keep hydrated more, when you give her her baths, poor a lil bit of pedialyte in there and it will help keep her hydrated! :) Not every time but for now at least. She looks pretty frail but its ok though! She will bulk up with these added things on your list! Thanks for being so aware and considerate too of your beardie! That really helps to have a great parent that has the time and money to take the actions needed!! |

The coils are VERY bad for beardies....they cause eye problems and blindness. Also, the basking spot wont be enough for him to thrive. I hope you understand. Plus, it’s not about the "looks" u should be worried about. You should be worried about what is right for them. You need the long tube that goes all the way across the tank. I hope you dont think I’m pushing this but.. I really hope you get these things which I’m sure you will on the 10th but they need to be the right ones..not what looks better. Plus, the two bulbs in the seperate holders arent bad looking! :) |
