 He’s mad at me.

I think my BD is mad at me. The other night he was having trouble breathing and I thought he was choking on a crix. I looked down his throat and didn’t see anything. It was late at night and I couldn’t find an emergency vet that took reptiles so I took him to one in the morning. By that time he was fine, but the vet said that he seemed a little calcium defficient. So he gave me an extra liquid calcium supplement to give him everyday. It’s very sweet so he said they don’t like the taste of it so you have to hold him and force it down.

I’ve been doing this for 3 days now and he gets all pissy anytime I come near him and he doesn’t want me to hold him. I had just gotten him to the point of being comfortable with me so I’m pretty bummed about it. And it’s not like I can stop holding him for 2 weeks and then slowly start reintroducing myself to show that he can trust me because I have to give him the supplement. Will he get over it? He will like me again right? Is there anything I can do in the meantime to show him he can trust me?

Yeah, how do you dust your insects and what kind do you use and how often??
How old is the beardie?

ok, well I was gonna try to help you with your calcium issue so you wouldnt have to shove the liquid down her throat anymore and she wouldnt be "pissy"with you, but whatever..sorry!

She’ll get over it though.

I don’t need help with my calcium issue. It was pre-existing as I just got him 3 weeks ago. I’ve already been dusting the crix with calcium, but the damage is done and now he needs a supplement for a few weeks. Not everyone needs help with how to care for their BD. I just need to know if there’s anything I can do to make him more comfortable in the meantime.

Just hold him more I guess. I dont know how often and how long you hold him...but when they hear your voice and feel your touch, they feel comfortable. At night too is a great time to hold them when they are sleepy..helps them trust you more.. just a thought. I understand not everyone needs advice on certain things but some extra advice is never bad! :) Good luck with the little one though.

I’m really not trying to be rude but it’s obvious that you do if your beardie is calcium deficient. Yoshi was just trying to ask a simple question. Just because you didn’t think she wasn’t answering your question doesn’t mean she wasn’t going to. Please don’t get upset every time someone asks an innocent question. We already have enough uptight people here, lol.

Obviously you didn’t read my post. I’ve only had him for 3 weeks so he was already calcium defficient when I got him. I’ve already been dusting his crix for the time that I’ve had him, but he needs a little extra.

And BTW, this is why you have uptight people on this board. I come here to get information a lot and all I ever see is someone trying to get help with one little thing and they get berrated about how they care for their reptiles. There’s a lot of superiority complexes running around here.

You seem like a angry young man- maybe thats rubbing off on your poor dragon. Now no-ones gonna bother to help you- we’re too scared we’ll give you "too much" info. Good luck with the little one.

leave it alone. he is mad cause it doesn’t want meds (who dose), do bare maintenance till the supplement is off then leave him alone a few days after wards till he settles back down. once he realizes ya aren’t gonna shove junk down his throat. he should be more friendly again.

 He’s mad at me.

Try hand feeding him small pieces of strawberry, raspberry, grapes, blueberry, ect.
Mine goes nuts for that stuff. And then yours will figure out that everytime you come near him, you’re not going to shove something down his throat. I’d even give him some treats before then feed him the nasty pill and then give him some more yummies.

He’ll get over it. Just hold him and stroke him. Don’t worry. He’ll be ok.
