 Taming the Beardie

I have had my beardie for over a year now. I went away over the summer and left him at home. He was getting tamer before I left but now he is as skittish as when I got him.
What is the best way to get him to tame down?

well thankfully me and my BD had a bond from the moment i got her..but here some things you could try..just place your hand in the cage dont touch or grab him just place it in there where he can see it and just gently talk to him..talk to him ever time u see him then slowly start gettin him out for a few minutes a day then gradually start keeping him out longer..but when taking him out of the cage do not chase him swoop him up under the belly let him get comfortable with u and if u can try not to reach in from the top of the cage..also taking him out after he is asleep and lettin him lay on ur chest is a good way to gain trust..these are just some things u could try..:)

 Taming the Beardie

:-) The most important thing to remember with virtually any Reptile is, give them time Firstly, let him be for 2-4 weeks so he can learn to trust that he is secure in his tank. Do not touch him for the initial twoish weeks. Then, If you try to hold him, always approach from the front, not above, behind or from the side. Let them see you first before you even open the lid. Make sure he knows your there, try just feeding him with tongs at first, this will help him to get used to the idea of your hand being in his cage. Give him some time, a few weeks possibly of doing this, then, do as mentioned before, scoop him up with your hand, only if he allows it He probably will squirm a bit, but as long as he’s not totally flipped out, hold him a few (2-3) minutes, put em’ back, be done for the day. Try that for a week or two, hold him a bit longer, maybe sit on the couch with him on you, let him wander a bit (not too far as you don’t want to end up chasing him down as that would only scare him). Then just hold him longer, maybe an hour as long as he’s warm.

Give him time and he will trust you entirely in what is a short bit really, He needs to learn to trust you first. Do everything to earn it, and do nothing to break it and you will have a buddy for life. :-)
