Injured eye and wont eat... please help
I’ve been offering crickets everyday (which she eats on occasion) and giving her different veggie babyfood and mixing calcium in. She is active and curious, but her back legs and tail have become extremely thin. Her cage is nice and warm. Basking area around 100-110 degrees. I’m trying very hard but she is just so labor intensive i’m very worried. I dont know what else to do. If you have any ideas please help.... I live in alaska, so there isn’t a lizard vet here. |

What type of UV bulb are you using for your dragon? There are some out there that have harmed the dragon’s eyes.....The reptiglo 10.0 I believe is one of them. As well as some of the coiled ones. Edel |

I was visiting the feed store the other day ....for horse and tack. They have an ointment for horses about 8.95 US ...a small tube ...cures pink eye and infections of the eye....it is the next best thing to human prescription drugs you can get ...It is an antibiotic cream ...apply sparingly to the eye / eye brow / lid...use a Q tip. I hope you can find something that works for you. If it is an infection and it is not treated it can cause other issues. If you get some turtle drops like Nancy said and that doesn’t help this would be the next step. Always good to have a medical kit on hand for treating your reptiles. How did the injury occur?? Describe in more detail the swelling /appearance of this eye. Post a picture so we can see... Cp |

I am not sure how the injury started, i thought i watched a cricket bite her. I think it was a small injury that just got infected. I hope everyone had a happy halloween! |

Let me just offer this ....any drug store will have solution for contact lenses .... a sterile soothing eye wash ...typically saline solution. This would be safe and non medicated .... so it will just sooth the eye. If you are worried about stuck shed there are 3 things that will help immensely.... 1 Shed ease...sold at the reptile stores ..and over priced. 2 Mineral oil ...olive oil...and lastly vegtable oil, I prefer olive oil and have used liberal amounts safely on a water dragon. Please use very little. It goes a long ways. Pour a small amount into a seperate container and use a Q tip to apply. Try not to get into the actual eye ....just the scales brow, etc. After a day or two any stuck shed will usually come off very easily ...feel free to use bathing methods in conjunction with the olive oil. You must use good judgement to decide what is the problem ...and what is the remedy...sometimes the simplest things are easier and safer to attempt first. Cp |
