 * Feeding Question *

I was wondering, can bearded dragons eat wet cat food, or dry cat food, mixed in with those bearded dragon pellets? I ran out of greens yesterday and can’t make it to the store until tomorrow evening because I have exams tonight and school tomorrow all day. It would only be a 2 day thing (today and tomorrow morning).

Also, does anyone have any suggestions to helping preserve greens longer than a couple days? I find I always buy a bunch of mustard, collard or what ever greens, and after a couple days, it starts to smell funky and get ’juicy’, like watery at the bottom of the bag and just LIMP!

im pretty sure u cant feed that stuff, the beardie pelets tho you can just soak in water. Hes not gonna die without food for a couple days, just feed him tomorrow afternoon. And thats what i hate about greens they always go bad and smell even worse than beardie poop lol. Maybe getting some of those zip lock sealed baggies and throwing them in there. Like the ones that promise freshness lol,. Just a thought

Promise freshness, lol, that’s funny, I’ll try those! And I wouldn’t go as far to say it smells worse than beardie poop, LOL K beardie poop totally makes my bedroom smell like farm. But old greens does give off a pretty nasty smell regardless.

Yea I guess you’re right about being ok without his greens, actually come to think of it, he doesn’t always eat his greens every day anyways. I just get paranoid he’ll starve.

Lol i no how u feel i do to!! My beardie is older tho and needs greens everyday. Lol Hey some of those things that promise freshness work! Not to gross out, but i had sticky tile in my beardies cage (didnt no it was bad) and when i found out it was bad i took it off, there was SOOOOO MUCH CRAP UNDER IT. It was so nasty, it smelt worse than a petting zoo in my room.

sticky tile? Yea I took all the tile out and put in sand because there was poop stuck in between the tiles, under the tiles, and I was just sick of the smell, not to mention, how the crap would cake on during the day while I was at school and I would come home, like you said, to a petting zoo!

Well Alexi is a year old (just over a year I guess, not sure if his birth date, I got him as a rescue), so he should be having his greens every day, because he eats bugs a little less now. But I’ll suck it up I guess and just give him pellets.

I use those forever green bags. I wash the greens, dry them and wrap them in paper towels and put them in the bag. They last a week or more in the crisper. Good Luck with the greens.

Hey,
I didn’t read all the responses so sorry if I’m repeating anything, kinda rushed.
Most cat food contains fish and fish is not good for beardeis (or humans really) so I wouldn’t recommend it.
You can put a paper towel in the bag with the veggies to absorb some of the water. Is your fridge cold enough? Or maybe it has some spots in it that aren’t as cold. My veggies are usually good for about a week and a couple days..
Good luck!

Ooh ok the fish thing makes sense I guess because it’s high in certain things (wouldn’t know what, I don’t like fish!).

I’m pretty sure my fridge is cool enough, everything else seems to be fine. It could just be that the greens out here are possibly out of season (since it’s becoming winter), because when I buy them, some parts are already discolored and brown or yellow.

I will try the paper towels idea along with all the other great ideas I’ve been given :)

I use those greens bags as well, they work great! I wash the greens, and dry them with paper towel, and place them in the bags and make sure it’s air tight. Even the mustard greens lasted quite a while in these bags, and the collards last as long as I have them :) It helps that I have alot of babies that eat them all up before they have a chance to go bad, lol...

I freeze my greens, i tried this with pre-chopped lettuce...that did not work so well ...but the mustards and the collards i freeze.and then just keep a little in the fridge( enough for the next days feeding..pull some out everyday to thaw for the next)

Another thing i really like is Nature Zone bearded dragon bites..they are moist food bites and the dragons LOVE them!!! you can get them at pretty much any pet store ..if they dont have them ask about them...or look online you can find that at most reptile supply places online
* i did not read all the post so if this was said i am sorry*
