 Psycho beardie

Any tips on taming down a highly aggressive one year old bearded dragon? A poor kid returned it to my store because it is so aggressive and he is scared of it. Tried bathing it, holding and petting it but it’s still psychotic. It comes after me when I reach in the cage beard black, flared up and mouth open.

leave it in the tank alone for a few days. during this time of year, my beardie sometimes freaks out during breeding season. you might want to put some newspaper around inside the tank so he cant see his reflection. also holding him and bathing him will stress him out a little bit more. hope this helps

Let him settle down for a week or two before you start the taming process. I would invest in some hornworms. Food is the quickest way to a beardies heart and he will go crazy for horn worms. Make sure you keep him in a quiet place too. Unsocialized beardies tend to be really jumpy with noises.

We have a few like that ....i stuff a worm or tasty veggie treat in their mouth when they flare up and open wide ...they calm down and start chewing...if you can wrap them in a towel that is a good way to keep them still whilst you carry them or pet them / hold them in your arms. it seems to disarm them a bit and they kinda like it.

It can take months of work ...patience is key. Lots of food treats, no stress if possible ...like the other poster said , you might want to let them be for 2 weeks and just learn that you are the food provider and eventually they can trust you.

Being that you and he are in a store might not help things much ...

my beardie used to be a psycho he would even hiss at me. The guy at the pet store told me to put on garden gloves and hold him tightly (not too tight just secure) and stare at him for about a minute then hold him under your shirt for a minute so they feel your body warmth. Ever since i did that to bruce at about a year old hes never been aggressive toward me, hes rather sweet.
