 Well... Here we go.....

Our family is going to be adopting (he’ll arrive later today) a one-year-old Timneh African Grey Parrot named Gryphon. He is being rehomed because his owner (a single adult who lives alone) is travelling more for work, and has no time to spend with him. We have been planning on getting a Grey at some point for more than 3 years now, just waiting for the right one. We also spent over a year fostering two cockatoos (A Moluccan and a Citron Crested), to help us prepare for the demands of "parenting" a large bird. PIctures, of course, will follow once we’ve got him settled in. :-)

 Well... Here we go.....

We are very excited to have him. We actually didn’t pay anything at all for him, and his original owner gave us not only his cage, toys, dishes, playstand (which currently he’s afraid of) etc, but then went out and BOUGHT us a whole bunch of new toys and several months worth of the pelleted diet he’s used to, and gave us all of that as well. Her only concern was that Gryphon would have a good home where he’d be kept stimulated and socialized, and as a single person who lives alone and works a lot of hours, it wasn’t going to happen in her home. Of course we know that vet care can be expensive, but as for an actual investment in the bird or his belongings, we got lucky. He’s a lottle cranky from the move, and needs some patience and resocialization. Not to mention the fact that he’s a year old and getting close to the "terrible twos" anyway.. lol. Lucky for him, we had a Moluccan for a year--- I’ve been bit by far worse than Gryph can dish out. He’s very talkative already, with his favourite phrases being "Gryphon’s a good boy!" and "Gimme a kiss!" He also mimicks just about any sound he hears, and it’s not uncommon to wake up at odd hours of the morning to the sound of a bus backing up, or the rubbish truck stopping, in the kitchen! lol.
