Our new Timneh African Grey, Gryphon

BAD pictures, but he tries to attack the camera when we take his picture, so.... Anyway, here’s our new boy. We’ve had him about 2 weeks now. He’s a year and a half old (hatched in November), DNA sexed male. He’s already talking up a storm, including "Gryphon’s a good boy!" "Hello!" "Good Morning!" "GOOD BOY!" "I Love you!" "Gimme kiss!", etc etc etc. We just adore him.

Thank you! We’ve got our work cut out with him as far as some cage-defensive issues go, but otherwise he’s a great bird. We’re thrilled to have him.

Try making friends with some of their favorite foods, ohanna likes pasta, scrambled eggs, apples, bannanas, peaches, nectorines, exc. Try not to be afraid when you go to pet him, he can feel your fear and it makes him afraid of you.

He’s actually bonding really really well with my partner--- We call him "ours", but he’s definitely HER bird. He tolerates the rest of us, and that’s fine by me. The only issue he has is he doesn’t like anyone to put their hands in his cage, or to try to touch him when he’s in/on his cage. Once he’s out/off of the cage, he’s fine, no matter who it is. Lucky for him, we fostered a problem-child Moluccan cockatoo for a year- I’m not at all afraid of Gryphon’s bite-- I’ve been bitten by FAR worse than he can dish out. lol.

Beautiful grey. Congrats, and I like the name. I don’t get how so many parrot lovers overlook the timnehs, and breeders charge less for them as congos. Timnehs are just as wonderful!

Thank you. We really adore him. He’s getting better about his cage-defensive issues, thank goodness, as he’s getting used to us. He came to us named "Griffin", but I like the spelling "Gryphon" better. We couldn’t change his name (he knew it too well) but we figured he can’t spell...... lol.
