2 chickens. good idea or not? also my yard...

i really want to get a chicken as a pet. but my yard only has a regular chain-link fence. and i was thinking 2 because one might get lonley? will it? i would prefere 1 but i think it might get lonley. will they fly over my fence and run away? do i need to put a roof over the coop? and if i give it free rome of my yard, how much will it poop? how long do chickens live? how big of an area does it need? how big a chicken coop for one or two chickens? how many eggs does one chicken lay in a week?

Getting chickens as pets is a wonderful idea. They make great pets, as far as I know. Chickens usually live around 5-10 years, although I have known about cases involving chickens who live to be up to 15! Having two chickens is a good idea also, because when you aren’t there to be with it the other chicken can keep it company. If you plan to keep them outside, yes, you do need a good roof to put over their shelter. The chain link fence does sound like a potential for danger, though- they could get out, or something else could get IN with them. Another animal could dig under the fence and thus get into your yard. Whether the chickens can fly over the fence depends on how high the fence is and what type of chickens they are. You’d have to look around to find a nicely sized coop for them, and how many eggs the chickens will lay in a week depends on the type they are. Hope this helps

if you plan on keeping them outside, set rodent and raccoon traps.
