 My new tiels!

Ok they are both supposed to be girls an their names came from the prev. owners but I am like 99% sure the pearl one "tiki" is really a boy! based on behavior and what I have read about color... that and hes never laid an egg and she lays every season....

Maxx (who lays eggs)

Tiki- an alleged female....

Arent they pretty! And yes they are getting a bigger cage just as soon as I can build it complete with a nest box... so that they can do their thing lol...

How old is Tiki? Male pearls lose their coloring after I believe 2 years of age. Good luck with them, they look beautiful.

 My new tiels!

No idea how old either are all I know about them is they are both suposed to be females, and from what I have read female pearls have grey heads... And that Maxx lays eggs, shes laid two already for this season but that was a few days ago so im watching her carefully for signs of egg binding... and I posted their pics on CL and a lady who said she bred tiels for a while said shes sure that Tiki is a male based on color but cant be 100% sure I dont know but I am still going to give them a better cage and see what happens... I have thought about trying to find someone with fertile eggs and letting them hatch them out but so far all I have found are people with dove and quail eggs and im not so sure either would be a good idea lol...

This is not True I have a female pearl that has a yellow head!! I also have a male pearl pied that is loosing his pearl markings, I have a female cinnamon pearl pied that has a yellow head too. I have a Albino [lutino whiteface] female and a Lutino pied male cockatiel. I breed too, so if you have any Q’s just ask!!

Tiki looks like a female to me. They can have yellow heads like that. If it was male it would’ve lost that pearling.

Also never laying an egg is no guarantee it isn’t a female. Some just don’t lay while others do.

I have a 5 year old female sun conure & she never lays eggs.

You can’t base sex on behaviour either. If you have 2 same sex tiels in the same cage then chances are they’ve bonded strongly. This can cause one of the tiels to take up the opposite sex role. No harm in this being done either. You can also get male tiels that ’act’ like females & vice versa.

Males lose pearling approx 12 months old. When did you get the tiels? You can always get Tiki dna sexed.

 My new tiels!

I just saw the date on your photo of Tiki
01/24/2006

This makes Tiki over 2 years old at the least.

This makes me 100% certain Tiki is a female. A male would not have those pearl markings still.
