The initial cost of getting one (bird, cage, toys, supplements, food, etc.) is very high. Expect to spend around $1500-$2000 at least, unless you go for used cages or find a cheap one on craigslist or something. However, don’t expect to stop spending money there. You will have to pay for food, toys, vet visits, etc. and they are very very intelligent so always need new things to do. The easiest thing to do would be to search around for local breeders or rescues in your area to find out a range of adoption fees, and head to the pet store to see how much you’ll be spending on a large, sturdy cage/climbing gym, etc. Remember how long these birds live and how closely they bond to a single person (you). They can’t be "rehomed" very easily, so just make sure you are ready for the commitment. Other than that (sorry to lecture lol), they are great, loving, smart, fun birds and make great pets for those willing to spend the time and money to take care of them properly. I recommend microchipping, as well. Good luck! |
