Parrotlets are bite size parrots with LARGE parrot attitudes & require everything on the large side. Treat them as though they are a large parrot, not a small one.

Very true. That being said, if you’re ready for the work, you’ll get more out of the experience with a parrotlet than a budgie, at least in my opinion. That or a lovebird, some of my personal favorites. :)

ok. well do they need the same things? (food cage size etc?) because i dont know if i can afford a parrotlet so i dont want to buy all the parrotlet stuff and then find out i can’t afford a parrotlet. so if they need different things then i might have to get a budgie because i know for a fact that i can afford one.
thanks guys:)

Parrotlets (and lovebirds, very similar, cheaper as well) will need more durable toys, and more things to chew on. As well as a bigger cage. They’re like a large parrot packed into a tiny birds body, with all the mannerisms that go with the large parrots. Heavy chewers, mess makers, and all that. Their diet will also be slightly different, but not by too much. They will also require more one on one interaction than a budgie will. That being said, I think its much more rewarding to keep a bird like a lovebird or parrotlet than a budgie, you get more out of the experience.

Well if you are thinking about the price and if you can afford it then buy the budgie they are just as fun and are cheaper.

ok. price doesnt matter as much. i found a place where i can adopt a parrotlet for under 100$ and my friend has all the supplies i need she’ll give it to me for 10 bucks. she won a bird starter kit prize basket so all i have to do is buy the bird. we have all the fresh foods it needs and we have a good cokatiel mix that i can feed along with fresh foods

Parrotlets, any day! They are a lot of fun if you are willing to put in the extra money, time, and space.
