Rip jill <3 Hey, so sorry to hear about your loss. However, I would recommend finding out why your bird died before getting another one. It’s unfortunate your mom buried her instead of getting a necropsy to determine why she died. I suggest getting your other bird to the vet for a check up, and washing out the cage very well with soap and water to make sure any germs are killed.
Also, it sounds funny, but your other bird should actually have some time to grieve. Even just an extra two or three weeks would be fine. Animals grieve just as people do, in their own ways. Give him some time to adjust before changing his life again.
Can you think of any spray cleaners, perfumes, air fresheners, insense, smoke, or anything else that could have been sprayed or burned in the house before your bird died? Birds are very sensitive to these things and can die from something that you wouldn’t even notice. Make sure they are not in direct sunlight and have plenty of ventilation.
Good luck!

Rip jill <3 well i dont think it was in the air because jack was in the cage with her and it would have affected her aswell. she was trying to lay an egg for about a week before she died. i think she might have eaten something in my room i feel so bad that i didnt even notice that something was wrong i miss her so much. i cant believe mom burried her without me. i know it sounds weird but when my friends bird died and she wasnt there her mom put it in a ziplock bag in the freezer untill she got back so she could say bye. my mom can be really unthoughtful sometimes. i know i dont want to get another bird yet and my mom is still against it because she thinks that if jack and a new bird dont get along then we have to give the new bird away and it wouldnt be fare to it, but i want to get this cage and pet bird starter kit from my friend who doesnt want it and get another bird in a separate cage in the future just to keep jack company even if its not in the same cage they can be by eachother so they wont be lonley. if i do get another bird though i wont get another cockatiel. cockatiels were my moms choice not mine so we deffinetly would keep them in separate cages in the same room. its anoying that almost everything i do reminds me of jill. im not ready to get another bird yet and i dont want to get a cockatiel because it would feel to much like trying to replace jill which no one can ever ever do. i miss her and love her so much.

Actually, it’s quite possible that it wouldn’t. Almost any sudden death of a bird is due to toxins in the air or heart attack from stress. Since she probably wasn’t stressed, it’s likely that it was something in the air. Even just perfume, burning something in the stove, dust, etc. can kill a bird. And all birds are affected by everything differently. Jack may be more tolerant to these things than Jill was.
Anyway, just trying to help you prevent this from happening again. If/when you do get another bird, I’d suggest a budgie if you don’t want another tiel. Budgies and tiels actually get along really well and are often housed together, but you could also keep them in separate cages right next to each other. Budgies are inexpensive, small, and easy to keep compared to a lot of other birds.
Also, what type of food do you feed the tiels? It could have something to do with that...

Rip jill <3 we feed them a cockatiel seed mix and washed lettice or carrots. they also have those hanging seed blocks everyonce and a while. i fed them sugar free dry cereal that i read was safe for birds. it was like shreddys. i only gave them half of one just to try it as a treat. and i dont want to get a budgie. if i get another bird it will most likley be a greencheek conure because i was planning on getting one when i was older anyways. i will be soo sooo carefull this time i dont want to loose another birdiee:( i have researched conures and parrotlets for months now and i want to get a conure. i miss jill sooo much. yesterday i used a magniflying glass to burn a peice of wood to put over her grave. it says "RIP JILL" and has a heart on either side of the words.

Rip jill <3 Aw. So sorry she didn’t make it.
For your next bird, consider feeding a pelleted formula or the types that you cook before feeding. Seeds are like cheesecake, birds can literally starve to death pigging out on them because they don’t have enough nutrients. I’ll bump up another thread you should read.
Good luck, conures are great!! Get a sun : )

Rip jill <3 i cant get as sun. i cant afford one if i want to buy better stuff for the bird. i would rather get a greencheek and spen 100$ less and be able to afford better things for the bird. and thats not anytime soon. im looking into when im like... 14-16 to get a bird. we brought jacks cage outside today and she seemed to enjoy the fresh air and being around us alot. she was chirping back and forth with the birds in the trees in the back of our yard it was really cute.i found one of jills feathers on my pillow this morning when i woke up and i almost cried again... i think this is the first day since i found out she died that i havnt cried.
