 Question about Finches

I was wondering, does anyone know what ’lonchura’ means? And in what language? Because it’s part of the latin name for the society finch, but I can’t figure out what it means. THanks,

Catalina

 Question about Finches

OK well first off, you suck. lol I was perfectly content not caring and then i read this post and decided to do a simple google search to try to find it for ya put of some random spert of kindness and i couldn’t find it and then i ended up hunting for like half an hour lol. Although I didn’t find a straight answer as far as "Lonchura means...", I feel confident in saying that lonchura is simply the genus name for a group of small caged song birds, such as finches and canaries. I’m not sure about the language but it’s probably either latin or greek. If anyone has any further info feel free to add or correct me ;o)

 Question about Finches

THanks so much for looking it up, but I tried that already which was why I was asking here. It’s immpossible to find, I don’t think there is a meaning. I was researching it for my Latin class, and even my teacher doesn’t know. It’s not in the dictionary either, so I guess it just refers to the finch family, instead of having an actual meaning. THanks again for your help,

Catalina
