 Budgies..

I was looking in the petstore today after getting crickets for my gecko, and the budgies had all shriveled up ceres, all brown and peeling off.. Are these things terribly sick? I feel sorry for them..

Also, i’m getting my cage and going to pick out a Budgie on Christmas, so i’m just gathering info for the next few months. So, any advice for begginers? We have a cat, but i’m keeping my door completely shut at all times. Its some stupid stary my parents took in, I personally hate it.

 Budgies..

no not sick but most likly all females

when they are fit for breeding their cere will get brown and crusty so it is not a problem as long as they are acting normal other wise and the brown stuff is not a nasal discharge

i know what you mean about the cat my brothers(i live with my parents while in collage)
anyway his cat gets into EVERYTHING he has knocked my old cage over a few times times grr
i would try to keep the door closed but it gets too hat then and he sneaks in sometimes

now ihave a large cage and he cannot knock it over so it is no longer a problem

Do their ceres always look Brown, or only when they are breeding? I’ll be putting my cage up high, so the cat woldnt really get up there since there isnt any places to jump up, I use a chair to get to the dresser, but its on the other side of the room at my desk when I dont need it. The cat might not even get in..

 Budgies..

So.. Its kinda like, its pink or its not when its born? So if I get a female Budgie, its cere will eventually go brown and crusty?

 Budgies..

no when they are really young males and females have the same color cere

only when they get older do the colors change (i dont remember how old) females only have the crusty part during breeding parts of the year not all the time

my girl had a crusty nose a few months ago but now it is a pretty pink color

the brown is not that big of a deal that should not be why you decide wether or not to get one
