 When to start trainin

hey i got an almost 7 week old cockatiel and it is handfed. my question is when should i start trainin him, ive taught him the step up command but not sure if i should start to teach it to talk, whistle or tricks yet cuz it is so young and still so curious about things that it doesnt really pay attention,
i love my cockatiel and it loves to sit on my chest and play with my necklace.

Start now! Its never too early to start teaching a bird what you want out of it. The step up command is a great first one, and if he’s already learned that, then you have a good start. The more you can reinforce the good habits and cut out the bad when they’re young, the easier its going to be as it grows older to get a really well behaved bird.

Try starting small. Start with observing your cockatiel’s natural behavior, if it does something like, flap it’s wings, you could try giving it a treat and saying a command or something like that. Then move to whistling. This will take more time than the trick. You should start with something small and easy. Spend about 10 mins. or so a day whistling over and over again to your cockatiel. Make sure to give it time between whistles to allow your cockatiel to absorb it. And make sure to have treats ready to reward it. And finally, talking. This will be difficult. You should start with a small word like "hi". Make sure your cockatiel can see your lips move. Say the word you choose with lot’s of enthusiasm. Allow your bird to absorb the word, then say it again. Don’t be discouraged if your cockatiel doesn’t pick up any of these tricks right away, it can take weeks to teach it one trick. And, also don’t be discouraged if your cockatiel doesn’t pick up on talking. Not all cockatiels can learn how to talk. Good Luck!
