 It just doesn’t make sense!!!!!!

Ok well I have a male parakeet for about 3 years and he was fully grown. Then all he would do was sit on his mirror so I got him a female hoping that they would maybe breed and he would be more active! I kept them in separt rooms for about a month then let them meet they both in the same cage... She is definetly an adult too but they wuill not breed? They are bonded and kiss and if he goes in the cage she flips out visa verse. Also when I put her on the ground in a corner of something and he cant see her he calls to her and flys low to the ground to see if he can find her. They are on a ballenced diet and are let out daily. they have been together for almost a year and she has never even layed an egg. she had a nest box in too during and not durning breeding season and she was afraid of it? I have no idea what to do. I am almost out of school and will have lots of time when the babies arrive. I took the box out because it just took up space, but I would like to know what the heck is going on??? I do plan to have a PARAKEET AVIARY when I am older but untill then I would like to become more experinced with breeding small pairs.

Please help me with my problem

There is a difference between friends & bonded couples. Just because they kiss & seem to get along, doesn’t mean they’re strongly bonded enough to want to breed together. Kissing, preening etc is all very normal social behaviour & all do it.

It can also take up to a few years for a pair to fully bond. Some can grow instantly attracted to one another, while others take it slower & get to know each other for a couple of years first.

In the end, it is not abnormal behaviour, it is not unacceptable behaviour, there is nothing wrong with the pair & it isn’t up to us to force a pair to breed if they’re simply not ready to or don’t not ever want to. IF they choose to breed, they will breed. IF they choose not to breed, then accept it.

They are not different to us in picking partners. THEY choose who they wish spend the rest of their lives with & raise many chicks together, not us.
