Was it cruel of me to take his mirror away???

So this morning i took my budgies mirror i bought him with (budgie, cage and toys all came together for a quick sale Sonny was in bad condition but has greatly improved in the week) well i no birds bond with there reflection and i personally dont agree with mirrors but with him always having it would he bond with myself and my partner after the loss of his "friend" or am i best to put it back in?

I never use mirrors with my bird. It can cause them to be less likely to bond with humans because they see it as part of their "flock". If you want him to be friendly towards people the best thing to do is to handle him daily for 5 minutes at first then after about a week handle him for about 15 or 20 minutes if he doesn’t seem stressed out. Budgies are naturally skittish so it may take a while for him to bond with you if he does at all. I found that offering a little piece of fruit like apple helps them feel more comfortable too. I’ve had some budgies that just wanted nothing to do with any person and would rather just stay in their cages no matter how much they were handled.

I found that the more variety as far as toys go int he cages the happier and more social the budgie. I always change my toys out one a week and hide them away. I keep extra sets of toys that I rotate every week. I buy new toys once every two or three weeks. That’s about all I can think of.

In short. No, I wouldn’t put the mirror back in.

I hate mirrors with birds pretty much for just as you stated on how they bond with there reflection
But needless to say my partner put it back in his cage despite me explaining it too him how i dont want one in there and why
All the Bdgies i had when i was growing up were either aggressive or skittish or just both my family fid try to make the friendly as we got ones from bad homes but they never got better i remeber one of them having a heart attack and dying it was that scared of humans bless iy :(
Sonny will let you stroke his belly then he panics and paces and will make a weird coo-ing noise if he doesnt pace which also shows us he is getting stressed abd after coo-ing will pace or panic he does well out of his cage he will fly into me and perch on my chest and pull himself up by my piercings to sit on top of my head
I am waiting until Friday when i next get paid to get him more toys and will definetly do the swap and change game you have mentioned :)
