New Hi, I am new to this site and birds. I really did not like them and my husband wanted one. We got an orange winged amazon. He just turned 1 and have heard many awful stories about how they get mean as they get older. He is very loving, to at least me. It is funny hoe I dd not care for birds and he took to me. I think because I was home all summer when we first got him and I talked to him all day. He is vert territorial over me. I just want to know from other owners if it is at all true. I handle him and spend time with him everyday and during the weekends I am with him all day.

New Yes it can be true but as you say, he is more likely forming a good bond with you because you’re around for him the most.
They can get a bit nasty to anyone else in the home so do be careful there. It might be a good idea if you have any adults in the family give him loads of time through the day so he learns to socialize properly with all members of the family. And supervise children around him.

New My husband does spend time with him and my children, he tolerates them. He does not like most men, my brother in-law and some male friends. He has his days but then there are those days when he is so loving.
