Society finch can be kept alone?

I have 2 society finches, one was 6 years old and the other was 8, and they were a bonded pair, but the 8 year old died today. Do I have to replace him or can I just put in a mirror for his mate? I know it sounds mean to not replace him, but every time a finch dies I replace it, but then the other dies and I replace it, and that process has been going on for many years and although I love my finches I don’t want to keep finches forever, I’d like to try a bird I can hold like a budgie or something. Thanks,

Catalina

Perhaps try to find one around the same age.

Yeah, I bought another female. I couldn’t get an old one (the petstore sells out of finches everyday and is always getting new ones in).
