Pics of your Green Cheeked Conures!

I want to get a GCC soon, maybe in about two months. Does anyone have any links for good cages? What do you feed them? How did you start to handle them? This will be my first bird, so I’ll take these two months and use them for gathering info and supplies lol. Oh, and I also need to convince my mom to let me get a Conure for my b-day. She’s told me when we lived in the old house that I can get a bird when we moved. Need some help for convincing, and for the info.

Okay, enough of that! Let’s see some pics or videos of your GCC’s!

that would be a great cage for a green cheek

as for food you will want to get a good quality pellet like zupreem, roudybush etc

also feed fresh fruits and veggies

make sure to get a TON of toys of varying materials and texture, youll want some that are easy to tear up and some that are more difficult so he has plenty to do

as far as handling try to get a tame baby

either go to a breeder or make sure to hold one at a petstore before you get it

try to hold it either way so you know you are getting a friendly one

i dont have a green cheek put i have a quaker

i got him from a breeder and i took him home and just kind o flet him be for a few days
talking to him and feeding and watering him of course and he was alrady used to stepping up when asked etc so it wasnt difficult

and i work at a petstore and we always hold and baby our birds so they are super friendly

good luck

Okay, thanks! I’m not sure if there are any breeders around here, I live in Ocala, FL. Do you think the bars would be fine for a GCC, would they break or anything?

Thanks for the help and link; unfortunately, I don’t see any breeders near me. Is shipping safe? lovetheleo, would you recommend I get a young GCC, or older? I’m thinking of getting one from an individual owner, not sure though. Thanks!

shipping is safe but expensive(usually costs around $100 or so and you have to pic them up at the airport

i would go younger

it is nice to get a bird from someone but you have no idea of its medical history or if has been given proper care and it could have alot of behavior problems

but if you find a naice one that has been taken care of properly then you shouldnt have a problem

good luck

Someone’s giving me a cage for free, and some toys. It’s good for a free cage, just needs some cleaning. We’re going to check out the flea market tomorrow for toys and maybe a GCC, but I’m not getting one tomorrow- just window shopping xD. Hopefully we can get my mom to say yes.

I will, especially seeing that it’s been in a barn for who knows how long lol. I only saw two GCC’s, and they were very scared of me. I did, however, fall in love with a $400 Senegal. He let me flip him on his back and even played with me, where he would run away from the other people. I wonder if we can make payments on the little guy....(five and a half months old)

Take your time and research the different species of birds. You should find one that fits your lifestyle best. All parrots are different, although there are certain traits that go along with the species, i.e. noise level, etc. Of course there are always exceptions.

I was only actually looking for one of my birds. My Budgie was abandoned after her owners moved and I took her in. My Zebra Finches were given to me when their owners were moving out of state and didn’t want to bring them. I found my Cockatiel on Craigslist when I had been looking at different birds on there for quite some time. It was "love at first site" when I saw him and I adopted him.

I find all parrots intriguing, which is why I recommend you research more than one species.

I’ve already researched all the birds that I was interested in, which consisted of a Cockatiel, Green Cheek, or a Senegal. The fact that Sennies are relatively quiet hit me as their best attribute. I finally got the cage cleaned up; it took a few days! Now, all I need to do is wipe it down and add toys, food/water bowls, etc. What Zupreem food do you suggest for small parrots?
Thanks,
Stitchex
