No, they aren’t that loud. I have mine in my bedroom and with the door shut you can’t hear them out in the hallway. I have a video of my society finches chirping on youtube, to give you an idea of what they sound like. My username on youtube is Snakey95. I hope I helped!

P.S. my finches aren’t that colorful, but you can get really nice finches like gouldian finches or owl finches, and they make as much noise as any other finch (not very noisy). :)

Yeah, that cage is perfect, just clean it well and make sure it’s not rusting since you got it at a garage sale. If you’re getting zebra finches, make sure you don’t get 2 males because they can become aggressive during the mating season. Both of my finches are female but you can also get a male and female pair. Also, if you’re a light sleeper you should know that finches wake up really early. Every morning they wake me up at around 7 or 8, and then I have to put a pillow over my head so I can keep sleeping on weekends. They are perfect alarm clocks during the school year, though. :)

I would only use store bought perches, because plants can be toxic, and you wouldn’t want to take any chances. They don’t chew wood, but sometimes when they’re done eating they’ll wipe their beaks on the perch they’re standing on to wipe away the seed hulls that are stuck to their beaks.
