 Green Cheek conure problem??

It’s normal. Alot of parrot species are that way, especially the conure. As far as the being protective over you and not alowing anyone else to hold it, that won’t change. You are the human it has chosen as it’s companion and that won’t change as long as you are around. As far as the stepping up, you just have to keep working with that.

Some things you need to do:

Your bird is the dominant companion in this relationship. You need to show it who is boss. Some things you can do are:

You tell it when it can and cannot come out of the cage. Take a few days and work with this technique by letting it out for an hour and making it go back in it’s cage.

DO NOT let it get on your shoulder, that it a sign of dominance and if you let it do that, you need to stop.

Don’t let it get protective over you, the minute it starts, it’s time for a time out in the cage. Think of your conure as a child. It needs lots of structure and discipline.

Once you start doing this, you will see improvement one the being protective and not listening. Don’t let the conure get away with doing unwanted behaviors. It’s as simple as that.
