BUDGIE BEHAVIOR I’ve read in a couple places that it is very rare that two or three budgies in a cage will mate.. that you need larger groups..
My three budgies are about 6-7 months old... and have been in the same cage since I have had them.. It seems that my two female budgies are fighting over the male.. I’m not sure if this has ANYTHING to do with mating.. but they both seem to share their food with the male, and chase eachother away from him...
I’m just curious about the behavior.. any comments or suggestions???

BUDGIE BEHAVIOR
two females shouldnt be housed with one male, they will fight until one kills the other or they kill eachother. 2 female budgies should never be housed together period. i had a pair of English budgies breed and set on their eggs without being in a big group, u just have a better chance of getting babies in a group i guess.

BUDGIE BEHAVIOR
budgies and english budgies r the same pretty much, english r just bigger, i have also had about 7 pairs or budgies at the same time and i know how they react towards eachother. if u could provide a big enough cage(it would have to be huge, like 7ft tallx5 or 6 ft wide and maybe 4 ft deep just for like 4 pairs. they dont have to be housed in groups, they have a better chance of breeding if they can hear other budgies singing. i have housed them alone and in pairs so if u can afford to build a cage that big and have a place to put it go for it! but it will take a while for them to breed. i have had maybe 30 budgies in my short life(im 15) and i have NEVER had a pair breed. the English that bred, bred at my aunts. it takes forever for them to mature too, i had a female that didnt start laying until i had had her for about 6 years, so good luck!

BUDGIE BEHAVIOR I would assume they do best in pairs. 2 females will get along, but they tend bicker alot. I’ve had my male housed with a female with a nest box for 2 years minimum and they’ve mated, but still no eggs.

BUDGIE BEHAVIOR
i had an english pair that always had fertile eggs and the hen would sit on them but they would never hatch, the last clutch she sat on had chicks in the eggs but she died before they hatched. i have read that they usually wont breed as single pairs. i read that they have to be able to hear other pairs of budgies to stimulate them into breeding.
