 Parrakeet baby problems

Azure and Sir Olivier just had a clutch of four chicks. Two of them have their little legs spread eagle almost as much as their wings. The have problems walking. This is the first time I have ever seen this. The other two are just fine. They can stand on their perch and walk on the bottom of the cage. Is there something I can do for them or is this going to be a permanent problem? [Desperate in Texas]

Sounds like they have splayed legs. It’s caused by the parents sitting on the too hard. You can fix it with a piece of foam. Cut holes in a square piece, the holes should be places about the same postion their legs would be if they were standing up. Then thread their legs through (very gently) this will keep them in place for a while.
Here’s a pic of how it goes:

How old are the chicks? The best time catch them is 8-14 days to be able to fix. I’m sorry I’m not sure how long they should stay on for???? I can’t remember. They also need to be sperated from the parents otherwise the parents will rip off the foam, this means you’ll have to rear them. If you aren’t sure about all this, take them to the vet, they may be able to help you place the foam on their legs.
