Duck in a tree???
some ducks lay in trees, suck as wood ducks and i believe mandarins. it sounds like u have a pair of muscovies, they are great ducks. really social and excellent moms, sometimes having up to or over 20 babies at once, in fact my grandma saw one girl that had 27 babies! i have seen a muscovy build a nest and lay a clutch of eggs on a roof, in a crevice on it. the male has the bigger caruncles(turkey waddles). and he should be twice the size of the female. but yes, many species of ducks lay in trees. muscovies dont just lay in trees though, actually they are ground dwellers and its not that common to find a pair nesting in a tree, but if they like it, then they will take it. hope this helps!

Duck in a tree??? i looked at pics on google, and yup, they are muscovies! no babies yet tho, i foudn some broken eggs ont he ground, i thin she accidently knocked them out of the tree.. and there was one unbroken that she knocked out, and after watching it for 4 days, and no one coming to sit on it, i went to throw away, only to find that when it cracked in the garbage can , there was a fully formed baby in it who blinked at me..i admit it, i cried and felt horribly guilty for days.. although now im thinking of getting a pair when i move into a bigger place.. i love ducks..lol

Duck in a tree???
yep, thats what i figured. i love scovies, i have 2! they arent like domestic ducks, D. ducks eggs take 28 days to hatch. Scovy eggs take 35 days. yeah, im sure it cant be easy keepin them all in the tree! that sucks! i know how u feel though, i have killed tons of chicks doing that, i cried too. now, its not that bad, unless its got down already, when i accidentally kill them, its usually when they are still nasty little blobs. but i know how u feel, and it sucks. be careful, lol. they multiply, FAST! i know of a lady that bought a trio of them, and both of the girls hatched 18 babies each, and they got to over 100 ducks in no time! i love ducks too! i have 5 of them. i love geese too. only have 2 of them right now though.

Duck in a tree??? i dont even know who they belong to, they just wander hte neighbor hood, eating bugs..lol yea the baby had all its fuzz and everything, probably not even another week and it would have hatched:(*sniffle* but now i htink shes nesting on my roof.. i always see the male waddlin around, and i onyl see her sittin up there, huffing at me..not even quacking, just sort of like a puh sound, like if you blow out air, its funny, she talks to herself..lol iv been here a month, and those 2 are the only ducks iv seen, no ducklings, but thena gain there are cats EVERYWHERE in the neighbord hood, so it hink the ducklings dont stand much of a chance if they ever do hatch.. if she does manage to hatch some babies, i might try to get one of them to raise for my daughter.. hopefully before they fall of the roof..:)

Duck in a tree???
they are probably feral. there are tons of feral scovies. yeah, it sucks. but it probably wouldnt have hatched if u tried anyways. scovies are the only breed of duck that dont quack! its weird, lol. they hiss which makes people think they are really mean, but they are actually really social ducks that love attention. they arent really hissing at u to be mean, they just want to say hello. yeah, they probably scared off other pairs. i dont think the parents would let cats get the babies, i mean, they would really fight. DO NOT take any of her babies, especially not 1. NEVER keep a duckling alone, it has to have a buddy, and duck buddy. if u want to, get a few scovies from the feed store and raise them to free range with the other ones. they are really messy though, and they grow fast. and poop a lot! they are great though. i dont think falling off of the roof would be that bad, since they are flying ducks, but im not sure. i just got my first 2 scovy ducklings about a month ago! my other ducks are domestics and dont fly well.

Duck in a tree??? they walk right up to you, they just dont like to be petted or anything, their quite happy to sit next to me when im outside on my porch..i read a little about them while i was looking ot see what kind they were, and they sound like great duckies.. im just concerned about the roof, cause in my head, fluffy ducklings + 8 foot drop = broken ducklings.. i have no idea which neighbor they belong to, but they have been here for more than a year( or so my motherin law tells me) and although they lay eggs all the time, theres never any babies.. the egg i killed*sniffle* proves that they CAN make fertile eggs, so why arent their any more ducks around? my daughter loves watching them..i think she thinks their cats..shes only 9 months old, and all animals are pretty much ka ka ka’s(thats all shes picked up from "kitty cat goes meow") i was only considering taking babies if that was the only way they would survive,, i did read that they do better in groups, i just had a brain fart for a minute:) how much are they, as ducklings? i havent been able to find any prices online, and i just moved to tampa so i have no idea where to even get some..are they friendly as adults, if raised as pets?

they are social ducks, and they like attention. they are great. wood ducks incubate their eggs in the cavities of trees, way up in the air, ducklings fall out of there and dont die. and its way taller than 8 feet! maybe that is why they built their nest up in a tree, they have predators eating the eggs. all kinds of animals will eat their eggs, so maybe that is why u have no more. they are great to watch, i love them. i wouldnt take the babies period though, its like messing with nature to me. but anways, yep, brain fart, lol. ducklings here cost 3 bucks a piece, its different in other places. there are tons of feral scovies in Florida. try to find a feed store, that is where u will most likely find them. mine are very friendly, my adult ducks(not scovies), and my geese. my scovies are really sweet already though, so im sure they will be great, i sure hope, lol. if u have anymore questions, please ask!

Duck in a tree??? thanks@ i wont take any babies from her if she does succeed in hatching them,,i was jsut worried that they wouldnt make it, but i read that they make very good mommies, so im somewhat reassured..lol im living with my motherin law now, so buying ducklings isnt going to happen until we get our own place.. so i have plenty of time to research different breeds and thier requirments..iv already got 2 iguanas, 2 waterdragons, a YES turtle, 2 african clawed frogs, and a cat..lol all of which are back in newjersey at my mothers house, waiting for me to get an apartment down here in tampa..my motherin law is afraid of lizards*whispers-scaredycat* so i have my sister spoiling them all for me, and i send up about 200 a month for upkeep..i miss my iggies:( hopefully ill get a place soon though,, rentals are cheap as anything down here!!! its awesome!! its more a matter of finding a landlord who like lizards
