I let this mouse thaw for over a day in the fridge. I put it in hot water for about half an hour. I did everything right. Now since this is the second time in a row she threw up her mouse, should I wait a month and then feed her a pinky? I’m totally beside myself. I use newspaper for her bedding now since it’s so much cheaper. So I know she doesn’t have a blockage b/c on top of that, she pooped and peed yesterday. |

Quote: dont feed it no pinky because it will get sick and eat something else thats not food in ts cage
Wow.... I am totally appalled that someone can be this stupid. Anyways, how big is your boa? How old is it? What kind of set up do you have? What is your temperature and humidity at right now? You need to first look at your basic husbandry to understand the basis of the problem. Wait two more weeks before you feed her again. The best way to determine proper meal size is this good rule of thumb: the rodent should be 1-1 1/2 size of the biggest part of her body. Meaning that if the biggest part of her tummy is the same size as a pinky, give her a pinky. If it’s as big as a hopper, give her a hopper. Quote: I let this mouse thaw for over a day in the fridge. Actually, you don’t even need to do that. When feeding day comes for me, I have a bucket I fill up with hot water and I throw in all my frozen prey items that I plan on feeding off that day. Usually that consists of pinkies, fuzzies, hoppers, and large rats (basically all sizes of prey). I change out the water when I feel it’s getting colder (meaning the rodents are thawing out) and put more hot water in. To know if a prey item is ready for consumption, take it out and feel the insides by squeezing their bodies. If I still feel that their insides aren’t warm, I let them soak in hot water until the prey item is warm throughout the body. I hope this helps, I had a rosy boa that regurgitated a few times (due to husbandry issues, and once a prey item was too big) and it is very frustrating, and nasty lol. Keep trying, and let me know about how you have her set up. Sara |
