Jsut some pics any advice welcome.

Well, hi everyone, I was one here once and did post some pics right after I got my boa, but that was well over a year ago.

So I thought I’d update, first here is his set-up. Any comments are welcome.

And here is he, if anyone fancies suggesting what he is feel free when I got him he was sold as a common boa but the shop owner mentioned that there was a possibility of there being some red tail in him. When I posted pictures on here I was told that he was completely common. However looking at his colouration now he looks quite light compared to others I’ve seen. I honestly don’t care what he is but would love to hear any opinions.

Thanks for looking.

I would ditch the heat lamp. Even if a burn has not occured yet(yet is a key word) why take the risk. Burn are not fun to deal with no matter how severe.

Thanks, and sorry I forgot to say.

That isn’t a heat bulb ( i hate the things) its a ceramic bulb. The set-up pic was taken about 2 weeks ago when I first set it up. Since then I found the reflector to be getting too hot so replaced it with a ceramic bulb guard.

Florida boy, you don’t even deserve to be the owner of any snake! The heat lamp has a guard over it. I have read some pretty foolish and pathetic comments and/or advice from you!

Nice cage and beautiful BCI!

The dome around the bulb/ceramic heat emmiter can get pretty darn hot, hot enough to cause thermal burns. But the OP said he has dealt with this issue.

Jonny87,
Your right man, I’ve been on this forum for a few years now. Everytime I check a thread, there’s Florida boy chimming in and giving his 2cents. I wouldn’t take his advice for 1cent. This Florida Boy kid, seems to have written the book on every thing there is to know about boas. I think he better go back and read a few before he comments anymore on anybodys thread. Peace
Ralph

I’m glad I got your PM Ralph. I think my feelings might be hurt had I not.

All I can do is to try and help someone out here and there. It is a shame that I am met with so much adversity on this site. I use to be here nearly everyday passing out good advise and my experience but I can’t do it anymore. Seems to me now everyone is an expert even if they just saw one in a pet shop one time. IF you can’t see the similarity between a heat lamp and a CHE well what can I do?Good luck with your animals.

.02 Temp guns will tell you alot about what is going on in your cage. They are cheap and acurate.

Your right,
I think this tour has come to an end. I think our own personal hobbies and where we have taken our interests might be beyond what others do. Thats cool too, we are all in it for our own reasons.

great to see everyone is talking smack about each other on the ol’ RZ forums. It’s nice that animals lovers like us can sit here and quarrel with each other about our personal affinities. It’s like going to the reptile show, but I’m not buying anything, and I don’t have to pay Five bucks to get in. THANKS FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT. Your all wonderful human beings!

Regards-Brady

I’m sorry started off an argument. But quite honestly I don’t think I’ll be posting on this forum again.

I’ve been on many forums and never have I been made to feel like I’m not properly caring for any of my pets in the way that this board managed. As well as trying to make me look like an idiot.

I take the husbandry of my animals extremely seriously and do plenty of research both before I buy any animal and continually through owning it. I had thought this place would help me add to my knowledge.

A CHE is different from a heat bulb in so many ways and they are perfect for using with large boids, just about all care sheets I have read agree with this. In a wooden viv a heat mat is far more dangerous as the boa would be in direct contact with the mat and the heavy weight of the snake can lead to burns, there is also the possibility of acid burns if the snake defecates on the mat. If a water bowl gets tipped over it is another big danger.

My ceramic bulb is controlled by a pulse proportional thermostat and i measure the temperature using digital probed thermometers. I am going to get a temperature gun soon but am saving up for a good one.
