 My Pastel BCI

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here, so for the newbies, here is Indie, she is a pastel bci, 4 years old, 8 ft long, and weighs 37 lbs. I took this pic last night while feeding. Unless you have seen a pastel, the coloring of her in the first pic does not justify just how pink she is. Enjoy

Well, she’s 4 yrs old & 7’6" I’m not seeing as much growth as far as length anymore, but her girth is still growing. At her weight, I’m kinda glad she’s slowing down....she’s heavy for me who is 5’3" and about 120 lbs. I have a friend with a BCC, and he is 8’ and weight a hefty 54 lbs.

Funny but she looks more like a bcc to me than an Imperator.

 My Pastel BCI

Hey Jimmy,

Here are a few more pics of her. Everyone has told me she is bci. My friends has a true bcc and they look nothing alike.

What do you think? I’d like to know exactly which type she is.

Thanks, Kellie

Trust me on this. She has bcc on her for sure. Maybe she comes from a cross. I don’t even have to look that hard... a pure bci would have a pointier nose and be more speckled (in particular around the tail area). These days most CB Boa constrictors combine both genetics because many breeders in the past either could’t tell them apart or wouldn’t bother to separate them. No big deal, anyway. But my money is on the cross possibility (not hybrid, just subspecies cross).

 My Pastel BCI

A cross is possible. However there are no BCC similaritys so blaringly obvious to assume that such crossing has occured in the last 2 to 3 generations. I would be comfortable labeling her a Colombian BCI knowing that everybody who cares knows that Pure Colombians are not common and most Colombian BCI have been crossed at somepoint with something, be it Central American , BCC or any of the more exotic varietys. It is expected at this point by the people who care.

Not at all. BCI is extremely variable. Most Colombian BCI mature to a shade of brown(overall general color) with other various color influences like reds and pinks usually with a fair amount of speckeling. That applies to normals. Now there is so much slective breeding going on to bring on those pastel influences(not everything listed pastel is a pastel, in fact most are not) it is kinda hard to find the more normal wild type looking boas. Alot of these breedings have removed alot if not all speckeling and increased color. But this is not what is to be expected of BCI in General. It is hard to speak in generalizations when discussing boa appearances.
BCC are variable depending on there Locality, even different localitys with in the same country can be very different. Generally speaking, Surinams are pink, Guyanans(basically a Surinam) are purple, Peruvians are yellow, Brazilians are darker purple/pink and Venezuelan are redish/brownish/orangeish, all with brilliant red tails , not rusty orange/red , blood red.

Again I cannot stress how variable all boa subspecise and localitys are. So much so it is hard to even guess at what something may or may not be with out seeing hundreds (or very many if hundreds are not available like the more rare varietys) of examples of each variety.

Welcome to the ever wonderfully confusing world of boas.
