 Average size for yearlings?

hey all, ive been lookin around here quite a bit lately and have been seeing quite a few yearling boas, and was wondering what everyone considered normal growth. my boa (not sure of the sex) seems to be growing rather fast, hes about a month under a year old, born april 11 ’07, and is just over 4 and a half feet long, now to me that seems like alot for a boa...i have not power fed or anything like that, steady meals once a week, and plenty of "play time", any opinon is appreciated

thanks

At this point I would suggest feeding less often. While that growth may not be the result of power feeding, in reality(and this is not an accuation or anything like that) it is probably a result of general over feeding. Common BCI can grow like wild fire even on moderate meals(less than once a week) but growing fast is not nessasarilly a good thing. In general boas that reach large size in realativly short time periods do not live to old age by a long shot. Boas don’t need to be powerfed to be overfed. And I’m not saying your animal is not healthy, just saying, as you are obviously thinking that slowing the growth rate at this point may be a good Idea.

Here is a tidbit that hasn’t been brought up in a while I’m sure. Try only feeding when the snake starts looking for food. For the most part I don’t feed until I notice much increased activity. After a while you will be able to tell the difference between a snake that will eat and a snake that wants to eat. Feeding guides that beginners learn from are nothing more then a starting point and guide to base off of. Normally I could stick food in any cage and the boa would eat guaranteed, but in reality alot of them wouldn’t even be looking for food for a couple weeks.

Nice snake. I’m sorry but Pantera was only good during their Glam Metal days.
