Okay this year will be my first year to breed, and I’ve read a lot about it, but the genes part gets me. I have a male 100% het albino and 100% het anery (DH snow) and two females het anery 66% het albino. What will I get out of this? What exactly does the 66% mean? I’d really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Also I heard the rumor that if there eyes are light they are het albino, is that true?

66% is that it is a possibility that it carries the gene for a particular trait, but does not guarantee it. Because it is not a visible trait as well as percentages being that part of the litter was het and the other part wasn’t therefore it is very difficult to distinguish between the two therefore, breeders will say possible 66%... I’m sure there’s a more technical way of explaining this but I find this to be the most simplistic way.

I’ve heard of the eye theory...I seen a split between those who beleive and those who don’t.

There are a great deal of genetics tables online. If you send me your email address I will send the one I have.

If the anery gene is proven in both of them then you will definitely get anery...remember anery is recessive

if she has the trait for albino then you may see albinos in you litter as well.

Who was the breeder you got your dh snow....one must take into consideration...because dh snows look like normals (2 recessive traits)

Boaaddict and others are great at the genetics you may want to hit them up for more advice. also looking into the gentics wizard.

good luck

Here are a few more thoughts I’d like to add to Grandpa’s response.... A 66% het is produce by breeding a 100% het to another 100% het.

If you were to breed a 100% het to a 66% het then the babies produced would have less of a chance for being hets, something like 50% (I think....I’d have to do the math to be sure...too early in the morning to do math).

If you bred a 100% het to a normal non het, the babies would be 50% het.

Basically, the lower the chance of the parents being het the less likely the babies produced will be het.

The eye marker theory only works reliably when looking at babies from the same litter. I know more people that swear by the white scale marker than the eye marker.

Many times on het albinos a few stray white scales appear as the boa ages. They’re normal, scales but they are white. Sometimes it’s just one scale, but I have seen one boa that was peppered with white scales!
